Urban Records

This place has lost its shine in the past few years. It tries hard to be cool, but doesn’t quite get there. It still sells old school records and CDs at old school prices. As we all know that is a dying industry. Hello internet! The selection of music is no longer what is used to be either.
The back of the store has been turned into a novelty gift shop style area. Crammed full of things that no one really needs or that you would get from a Kris Kringle gift at work.

Located on Leederville’s busy café strip, Urban Records exudes a hipster chic from the outside, with its sharp black-​and-​yellow motif. Inside, it is part clothing and bric-​à-​brac store and part music store. The front part is dedicated to music, while the back half contains the clothing and bric-​à-​brac.
Music-​wise, Urban Records is rather average. Despite its hipster attitude, their selection is small, bland and their prices are higher than other places.
Urban Records, however, works better as a clothing and bric-​à-​brac store. Some of the items on sale are charming and whimsical, while the clothes are suitably chic — if steeply priced.
Urban Records is not a bad store for a quick browse, but there are better stores along Oxford Street for clothes, and better places to purchase music in Perth. Urban Records seems to a store that can’t quite decide on what to focus. It attempts to be two stores rolled into one, but does neither facet well.

Don’t be fooled, Urban Records is not your usual music store, nor is it your regular clothing store; in fact it is a little of both. Housing a retro inspired CD/​record collection as you first walk in, with a range of the latest clothing brands, stylish jewelry, fashionable bags and funky homewares towards the back.
The store is not very big, so there is not a great deal of variety; however it stocks a classic range of alternative music and features cute designs by style stalker, evil twin, minty meets munt, mink pink and wish. Whether your looking for tunes, something to wear or simply having a browse, Urban Records is a wicked place to check out!
