JB Hi-Fi is something akin to the Evil Empire for retailers. As a lowly store clerk at an EB Games, throughout my tenure I would be peppered by questions like«Why does JB have it so cheap?», «Where’s the JB Hi-Fi in this shopping centre?» and«Why are you looking at me with a frown?». Freed from the shackles of corporate loyalty and now amongst the retail shopping public, I can safely say that this chain is fairly insane when it comes to the pricing, something alleviated by the sales of LCD/plasma television sets and laptops, etc. While the lopsided value to be found in shopping online from international outlets can’t be overstated, if you are still of the propensity to hit the stores for all your goods, this particular JB Hi-Fi is an excellent place to start. The staff are all knowledgable and approachable; you can ask whatever dumb question about that movie you saw that time with that guy from that other movie with the other guy and probably get a decent answer. And the regular security guard is extremely friendly, having never called me out on my frequent trips to browse and kill time while waiting to meet people on Norton Street. Thanks, man. The range of DVD and CD titles is fairly remarkable, too. Beyond finding what you’re looking for, you will probably find another five things that you want to check out too, so beware: you may wake up five months later with a pile of animé DVDs reaching your ceiling, static on the TV screen, and a Tom Hanks in Cast Away beard.
