I was desperate for an instant wax the day I stumbled on Bertil’s — no doubt not an uncommon occurrence in a beachside suburb like Manly.
And bless me, they could help me out immediately. Problem solved.
Indeed this could be a five-​star review; how can I complain when my issue was addressed so effectively?
Well, there is probably a reason why there are some salons you can walk into for an instant appointment, and others where you need to book in advance. Sure, I was hairless and suffered no after effects, but I won’t race back. There was just something about the sweaty plastic bed covering, the slightly used air of the décor and equipment, and a diffidence from the staff.
OK, maybe I would go back if I needed another instant fix, but I’d only recommend it to a friend who likewise, desperately needed an instant fix. More time and more money? Pick somewhere more salubrious.
