Description

Specialties

The Light Gallery is an important part of The Centre for Creative Photography’s concept and operates as a student-run, commercial gallery.

Exhibitions change approximately every four weeks, enabling students and the public to view a range of photographic work drawn from the local and interstate artistic arena. This provides a valuable experience for students to be involved with gallery practice and to view their own work in a professional context via the bi-annual student exhibitions or as curated shows.

Most exhibiting artists agree to deliver an informal public lecture about their exhibition in keeping with the educational objectives of the CCP.

Please express your interest in exhibiting at The Light Gallery by emailing the gallery curator, Alyssa Cavanagh, and a PDF version of the contract and terms and conditions will be sent to you.

History

Established in 1997.

The Light Gallery is an integral part of the education program of the Centre for Creative Photography (CCP) and its role as a photographic resource centre for artist and the public alike.

First established in 1997 in Stepney, The Light Gallery was and still is the only gallery in Adelaide that shows only photographic artwork. Since its inception, The Light Gallery has hosted a huge range of work from emerging and established artists, commercial and conceptual photographers. The gallery has showcased local, professional and international photographers and continues to search for work from new talents and old masters.

By 2005 the CCP and The Light Gallery had outgrown its Stepney home and moved to a much larger premises in Marleston. In 2010 the Gallery was renovated, encouraging the growth of its prominence in the Adelaide art scene and reflecting the passion we have for bringing art photography into the public realm.

Meet the Manager

Alyssa C.

Manager

With a background in graphic design and photography, I have always had a passion for the arts.

After discovering the Centre for Creative Photography and The Light Gallery I was inspired by its culture of dedication to the often underrated medium of photography and its place in the world of visual art and people’s lives. This inspiration drove me to pursue a role in curating the Gallery’s programme and overall direction. I also have the privilege of working with a dedicated and creative team of volunteers who make the realisation of our mission possible.
