The Gasoline Pony

I’ve been here on two occasions and both times the staff were really friendly and welcoming. In fact they were so friendly it was like visiting friends. A lot of other bars could really learn something from this level of service.
Cool atmosphere and décor. The only negatives for me was the music, really really slow folksy acoustic ballads but that’s just me, when i go out for a drink I want to listen to something a bit funkier.

You were fine local place to go for a drink where I don’t have to walk for more than 1 mins when I feel like a drinking night out… And then one day …
Came here with the bf for a drink before going to place next door for dinner. I went to buy a drink– on menu says Coopers on tap $ 5– I asked for Coppers on tap but received a bottle beer– which the barman already open it before I could ask — Cooper in bottle was more expensive than the tap beers. Anyways didn’t mind that. Got the beer and glass of wine.
First my bf said that the beer tasted a bit different– maybe coz was from bottle or something … Anyway he kept drinking… Got to half of the glass and we could notice something weird floating at the bottom of the beer. Big pieces. Looked strange… I checked the bottle and the beer was out of date 6 months. Hmmm… a bit old I would say…
I took the beer and went to the bar and explained the situation to the waiter. The problem is he didn’t even apologized for it. He started explaining to us that normally beer have a long expiry date blah blah blah Dude — Your beer already expired! and some stuff is floating at the bottom. Its not normal. And I paid for it too!
As a small local place The Gasoline Pony didn’t not look after us like business should. Even offering next drink on the house would keep us in the hood and I’m pretty sure we would come back.
Anyway The Gasoline Pony lost us as customers. Not only us but our friends too. We never going back. Some places just don’t know how to look after customers. We all make mistakes and this one was easy to fix. At the end of the day the business lost not us.

Great atmosphere in this little bar in Marrickville. Came for a going away staff party, so can’t speak for the pricing, but the service was lovely, food was nice and some great options for seating. It’s got a long path down the side to the rear, or you can go straight through — great seating out the back.
