Ok, so it’s tiny. The outside is bigger than the inside. Kind of focussed on the hotel clientele, but also takes bookings and honours them. With an adventurous menu and a great wine list, I’m a happy diner. Cheers!

Beautiful restaurant attached to the Blackman hotel. There are several deck seatings, a few tables inside and the bar. Intimate and classy little Italian. We’ve only had drinks and dessert at a bar but loved the atmosphere and service which is smooth and attentive. There were non hotel guest diners too which is always a great sign. Check out lunch menu deals for antipasto and main $ 20. I am very keen and will definitely return.

I was attending a wedding reception about 50 meters away. This was a perfect location to while away the time prior. The service was good. Professional and efficient. The décor was slick and new. We sat on stools at the bar. I reckon the at the bar is the best place to sit as you can see all the action. I drank house sparkling, my friends poured over the wine menu and engaged the bar staff in conversation around tasting. The Blackman is also a hotel. On Saturday evening between 5pm and 6pm the place was pack. But comfortable. I must say my friends and I were not the only ones waiting out our time between the church and the reception. And it was the reception centre(the Willows in St. Kilda Rd) that pointed us here. Overall a nice location for a drink.

Freshly made gnocchi pasta and lovely light pizzas are a delight here. Portion sizes are generally spot on, but the sausages were a little light on with minimal salad. Staff at every friendly and accommodating, being available, but not intrusive.

Fantastic meal. Only reason it’s 4 stars instead of 5 is because it was dreadfully hot and there were no fans or anything to cool us off at dinner, and our waitress(bless her heart) was pretty clueless about the menu(but she had good intentions and was very nice, so we smiled it off). Great antipasto selection, good wines, and incredible pasta — the carbonara my partner had was a definite standout. Gelato was oversized — one dessert was 3 scoops of ice cream(and didn’t taste like gelato, more just regular ice cream) — thankfully we asked in advance. Great food, lovely and simple décor, would definitely return on a not-so-hot evening :)

Fresh home-made pasta and thin base pizzas with classic toppings. It’s worth seeking out this little Italian bar/bistro at the base of the Blackman Hotel. We tried Tagliatelle with a wild mushroom and sage cream sauce, Penne Ragu alla Bolognese, Vitello tonnato bruschetta, Arancini, and Polpettini meatballs. The pastas were generously sized and tasty, arancini and meatballs were perfect antipasti dishes, while the punchy vitello tonnato bruschetta was a standout. There’s also a concise [but interesting] all-Italian wine list covering most regions of the boot. We’ll be back!
