Lemon Bistro

Here you get really good food. It’s fresh and tasty! The décor is nothing to write home about but it’s clean and the staff is polite and attentive. If I lived here I would definitely go back, no doubt!

If you enjoy Thai food but struggle with the spiciness then this is the place for you, and me.
Lots of great selections on the menu. For entrey try the prawn on sugar cane sticks. And yes you can eat the sugar cane or just chew on the sticks to get the sweetness out.
For a main, I had beef with cashew nuts and coconut rice. I find the coconut can take down the spice.
Friendly and quick service so I’ll be back for a Chang beer and beef and peanut satay.

My friend and i strolled through Chinatown on our way home from the gym and decided to treat ourselves to a meal out.
We walked and overwhelmed by the amount of options available on Little Bourke Street, we just decided to pick a random one, Lemon Bistro being ‘the chosen one’.
We entered and the venue was pretty average, typical stools and table set up with cushion benches lining the wall. We were served almost immediately by prompt staff and after looking through the menu, we decided on the meals to be had.
The thing about Lemon Bistro is that it’s not your typical Melbourne China Town venue, and by that, I mean it’s expensive.
The main meals were sitting at about $ 18 each… now this may not be an issue for some but when you can get 20 dumplings around the corner for $ 6, I think there’s an issue at hand.
The food was brought out in 15 minutes or so and then we began to dine. The food was definitely on the better side of the China Town options.
Quick Tip: Everything is super spicy, so if your intolerant of hot food, get them to make it milder… I asked for mild and feel like i got a whole bottle of Cayenne Pepper put into mine!

Lemon Bistro is a respectable Thai restaurant located right in the midst of Chinatown. A nice option if you’re finally starting to tire of the ubiquitous dumplings, it offers up all the usual classics at reasonable prices.
Think Pad Thai, Laksa, Thai Beef Salad ect ect. There’s nothing out of the ordinary here, so don’t expect anything too adventurous.
And best of all they’re byo!
My only complaint about Lemon Bistro, is that the dishes just aren’t spicy enough. They’re really missing that extra kick that you come to expect for good Thai food. I can only assume that this is a case of over catering to sensitive Western palettes, which in my books is a real shame.

Without fail if there’s an evening-​but-​not-​dinner event I’m attending in Melbourne city, Lemon Bistro ends up being the precursor to the main activity. Not overly expensive, but wildly popular despite being in a street full of other alternatives, Lemon Bistro is tasty and very importantly (when you’ve got somewhere else to be), quick.
Call me boring, but each and every time I eat here I seem to find green curry, chicken with cashew nuts, prawn crackers and coconut rice on the table. Hey, if you’re on to a good thing, right?
My only concern with Lemon Bistro is their habit of sneaking soy sauce into things they swear doesn’t contain it. I’m allergic okay? I don’t like finding out about said soy sauce the hard way, 15 minutes after I’ve started eating.
If you don’t have such soy issues though, add it to your list. Almost smack in the centre of town, you’ll struggle to find another place so conveniently located!
