My friend and I went to Rustica Canteen yesterday, it was a nice place with good ambient, the coffee is average but they have lots choices of bread and bakery. Taste its ok but nothing is outstanding.

Great service for a large group. Highly recommend the museli and the chilli scrambled eggs. Great coffee and just a cool atmosphere and place. Don’t walk out without getting some baked goods. Amazing!

I have been drooling over the food pics on Instagram for Rustica Canteen and finally got a chance to come here. This place is packed by 12:30pm so make sure you get in early! I drooled over their menu and debated fiercely in my head whether I should get the Nutella brioche for lunch or one of their sandwiches. I really wanted their brioche but their beef brisket sandwich is so hard to resist! Best decision ever! The beef brisket was tender and the super fresh greens in the sandwich perfectly matches and cuts the fattiness of the beef and cheese. The bread is of course delish. This also comes with a side of mustard potato salad which was amazing. The model-like beautiful creature in the table next to us didn’t eat the potato salad and I almost grabbed it off the waitress when she collected it. I eyes on the pastry cabinet filled with interesting donuts, cronuts, eclairs and croissants and watched them disappear as we ate. Thankfully the cherry and black sesame donut I wanted was still there when we finished. The cherry Jam was surprisingly sour but it was fantastic with the sweet donut. The sesame paste was an interesting twist to the donut and all the friends I managed to share it with loved it. Breads are on sale too, and I was dying for the spiced fruit loaf but the last one got snapped up by some inconsiderate person(ok just kidding! Obviously he/she has fantastic taste, just like me!) so I had to settle for the pumpkin-pumpkin seed loaf. It was fantastic. Chewy on the outside and oh so soft on the inside. So why did I deduct points? Well, some of the seats in Rustica(which I happened to be in) wasn’t very comfy. You kinda have to twist your body and sit sideways. That’s my only little gripe. I have already make breakkie dates with some girlfriends to try their Nutella brioche.

Without sounding clichéd, this is the epitome of a Melbourne laneway café for me. The great coffee, if that’s all you’re after; check. The delicious pastries, if you want something sweet; check. An all day breakfast menu; check. Amazing, and I mean AMAZING, sandwiches and salads for lunch; check. Cool, funky, friendly staff; check. The team at Rustica have fed and caffeinated me well and I hope that our relationship continues to blossom.

What kind of monster wouldn’t enjoy sweet, flakey and soft pastries! The team at Rustica Canteen know what’s good and on a daily basis bake some of the tastiest bites around the CBD. All the classic are here: croissants, danishes and cake. The almond croissant is one of my favourites, some of my friends swear by the rose croissant though personally I want my flowers to look at and not taste. The coffee is pretty decent too. While Rustica has steep competition with a few of my favourite cafes in the block nearby, their coffee is fine if you are also having cake or some side dish. There is a full lunch and brunch menu that is pretty bread heavy(as you would expect from Rustica). The location is nice a tucked away down a side street full of cool galleries, architecture firms and other notable eating places. If you come here for take away the counter has very quick service. Otherwise table service is also available and the staff are pretty relaxed about you sitting there using their wifi connection while sipping at your coffee. It’s a great place with a really cool fittest and well worth checking out.

I love places like this. It is so Melbourne in a tiny lane you’d never visit with a small sign out front. Even so it is popular! Had a pork roll and it was yum. Had chili and coriander so am Asian influence. Not stingy on filling either. The space is great and the deserts scream eat me. A must visit.

Such a cute café for a quick bite before work. Had the breakfast salad, a chai latte and a nutella honeycomb doughnut to go. The doughnut and chai were AMAZING and the doughnut was just doughy enough for a substantial snack but not so dense that i felt like a nap at my desk after. But TBH the breakfast salad was rather under whelming but hey, who’s fault is that for choosing a BREAKFASTSALAD. The chai soaked raisins(lol can you tell I like chai), grains and nuts in the salad were all on point but OMG I am not ‘instagram enough’ to enjoy that much cold kale so early in the morning. Can’t wait to come back and have more of their yummy treats and perhaps a bacon and egg roll for breakfast next time…
