This Japanese establishment gains a massive tick when it comes to being inviting and welcoming. If your lucky(as in most sushi trains) the staff will welcome you into the establishment for your patronage by saying«irashimase» which is the Japanese word for welcome. If you are wanting a cup of Miso Soup or some sushi, do yourself a favour and just head off to a nearby sushi train. This is a place for serious Japanese food only. I am talking about quality food that will fill you up. Something would be wrong if you left this establishment hungry. Their Bento Boxes are great and the Chicken Teriyaki udon was worth the wait and it wasn’t salty; it was oiishi meaning in Japanese that«this is really delicious.» And that is a compliment. It is disappointing to find high quality Japanese food in Melbourne in my opinion, and haven help me I am still trying to figure this one out. However Sakae Japanese Café is a standout Japanese restaurant, and again so affordable. A great lunch spot. It is a pity that this business is not open on weekends. The art in the dining area is what makes this restaurant unique and worlds apart from the chain Japanese restaurants that are starting to crop up over the city. Sayonara!
