This is another Malaysian franchise that has its fans here in Australia. They have a mix of quick asian and western style foods all mixed into their secret recipe menu, plus some good desserts I liked their nasi lemak. It was flavoursome and textural, like a good nasi lemak should be. The atmosphere here, especially in Melbourne Central, was a little too casual, too open to make the place feel like a special place to dine out, but the staff and food were good so I’ve been back and would do so again if nearby.

First tip is that this place serves great burgers to enjoy before going for teh sweets. By great burgers I mean ones that have pineapple, beetroot and egg which is my definition of a burger with the lot. And they are bigger than Huxtaburger burgers. Once you have enjoyed the«dripping down you wrists» burger then you can get in to the desserts. Its a great place to unwind after a movie.

Delicious cake, ok coffee, slow and confusing service. The waitress seemed uninterested in our large group(despite the café being quite dead) and did not explain, when she eventually came over to provide us with menus, that we would need to order at the counter. This was confusing because she then disappeared for a very long time and we weren’t sure where to find her when we were ready to order! The delicious cake meant that I could not give this place 2 stars. I had the mango cake and it was tasty and light as a feather!

When having a little walk around Melbourne Central, I was extremely surprised to see a chain that I never thought would come to Australia. Secret Recipe is quite a bizarre little chain that comes from Malaysia. Back when i was living in KL, I used to actually frequent them quite a lot. But the weird thing for them coming to Australia is that they provide kind of a Malaysian take on Western cuisine. Here you’ll get breakfast, Italian food, Asian food, different meaty main courses and lots of scrummy cakes. Quite an eclectic mix! When in KL, I’d often get their spaghetti bolognese when I was craving Western food. It was actually really good. Besides catering to the huge number of Malaysian in and around the city, I imagine Secret Recipe could be a success due to its huge range of delicious looking and unashamedly indulgent cakes. If I walked by a few times, I would have to try them out. And I imagine hungry shoppers would have to give into temptation quite a lot too. Check out their trophy cabinet of cakes and try and suppress your sweet tooth!

After an evening on the booze we all had different needs. One friend wanted a healthy dinner, one wanted greasy food and the rest of us wanted, no needed desert. We headed into Melbourne Central in search of a solution. The Secret Recipe was the answer! At first approach we thought it was a coffee and cake place as a lit counter of delicious cakes domenated the area, however a friendly staff member explained that it despite the range on the menu, the highlights would be malaysian food or cheesecake. So we listened. The food is good. Not amazing but you get what you pay for. Service is fast and friendly and a good quality option among the fast food outlets and food courts of Melbourne Central. The guy who greeted us was welcoming and effective all at once. Thanks dude! The range of cheesecakes is enticing and the raspberry flavour with chocolate base was great. My mocha lacked a hit of chocolate but maybe I’m spolit by Koko Black now. The place is clean, bright and has a large LCDTV playing music video’s, it does not encourage you to linger, but after satisfying your food cravings you are ready to head back out into the night anyway!
