Spiga is an odd place. I come by here more often than I would think just because it’s there. The food is actually quite good, as are the specials, drinks and staff. But it’s never a place that I’d arrange to meet someone.

Excellent staff and food. But most importantly for me, their gluten-free pizza is the best i’ve ever found. It’s a thin crust with a spectacular array of toppings. The Funghi e Pesto and Pear & Cheese are my favorites. I dined here fairly regularly during my year of living in Melbourne and still try to hit them up whenever i’m visiting. My only complaint is that they really like to close early in the evening and it’s hard to make it in time for dinner. Would love to see them stick around until 9 or 10.

If Matt Preston, The Age and countless other reviewers count Spiga as one of, if not the best pizza restaurants in Melbourne, then I guess its ok with me! Surprisingly, you can pick up one of these gourmet pizzas for under $ 20, in fact pretty much everything on the menu is under $ 20, making it one of the most affordable, up market café bars in the city. It also helps that it has prime position in Menzies Alley, a thriving and picturesque laneway located within the Melbourne Central precinct. Spiga is the perfect place to sit alfresco and watch the hum of the city and people, particularly because its well covered, heated and shaded. The staff are awesome, they have such an aura and personality and nightly happy hour prices help as well. A great, all round café offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also available for functions and catering. Definitely a place you should visit.
