Simmer Huang’s hotpot is weird. On offer is a selection of braised or dry hotpots that are«cooked at the table»(but really the better description would be «mixed together in a thick brown sauce at the table»). Varieties include fish, beef, pork, duck, seafood. You can also order individual ingredients which are then added into the braised sauce. Once you tire of this braised sauce business, you can signal to the waiter to… POURSOUPINTOTHEHOTPOT. Oh yeah, you read that right. The soup is added ATTHEEND. How scandalous! The result is a strange watery, oily puddle of the same sticky brown braised sauce you just had enough of eating. Price-wise, the meal is quite expensive for the food and service on offer, but the handmade noodles are nice, though. All in all, if you’ve got a hot pot hankering, I suggest you satisfy it elsewhere.

To my hot pot, steamboat, shabu shabu loving brethren — be very very careful before you step foot in this place. It’s not anything like what you expect if you want steamboat. It’s more like a spicy stew, with soup & noodles added in later. Forgiveble if it tastes amazing but alas it does not. It’s a confused mess of carrots, celery, capsicum with meat & the steamboat parts you normally have and all this with so much miscellaneous brown hot sauce. I just don’t know how this is a thing. Food innovation gone wrong. I left feeling like I’d eaten the worse meal in a long time. on the positive I discovered a fun little drink from a can, it tastes like sweet condensed milk tea.

Came here and tried the waiter recommended combination pot with chicken wings, fish balls, beancurd, ribs and meat, plus the mild sauce. The food itself tasted OK, but nothing extraordinary, a bit like black bean sauce. But there was a fixed cost of $ 15 just for the use of the cooking pot, with the food added on top of this. So always come here in a group of 2 or 3 people to share the cost of the pot, never alone. Even with the 3 of us, it was still a bit overpriced for this type of food. Furthermore, we had to wait like 30 minutes for the food to be cooked(on our table), so only come here if you have time to kill. The décor looked clean and comfortable. Waiters were helpful, appeared friendly and chatted with the customers while stir-frying their food. I guess this is the kind of place for long group lunches when you want to chat and eat.
