Starwok

«Waiter there’s a vein in my wonton» may not be the commonest refrain but I’d hazard a guess that Star Wok’s poor beleaguered staff must hear it a fair bit.
There I was, schlepping around Spencer Street Fashion Station looking for sartorial bargains when I saw Star Wok. Cute name? Tick. Ok-​ish looking Asian food? Yeah boy! This place looked like a winner.
Or so I thought until my meal arrived — which was some seemingly failsafe variation on the soupy, noodley wontony theme — and there was none other than a giant arterial vein protruding from one of my wontons.
Needless to say that the mere sight of wontons broke me out in a cold sweat for an absolute age afterwards and I haven’t been back to Star Wok since. I’m all for second chances but veiny wontons? That’s where I draw the line.

I was so keen on trying the Pistaccio ice cream, yet it tasted a little more like ice than cream. It seemed like it was artificial, although for what I was receiving I could not complain about not getting adequate value for money. Why? Starwok enable you to buy some ice cream in a tub that is a mini-​junior size; which means that if you are in the mood for only a few little mouthfuls; the size is perfect. Even a standard small size would be too much.
The service is excellent, I could not fault this. It is just a pity that the ice cream tasted more like ice than cream, and melted way too quickly. The serving cups were cute, and there was a beautiful array of different flavours to choose from.
Although the service was excellent, the ice cream for me was a let down. Disappointing really, although it is a good idea to keep an open mind. Maybe their other products would live up to a toughest critics expectations. Only time will tell. However in saying this there is an abundance of choice in Melbourne that I would not be inclined to come back to this establishment in a hurry.
