Mile End Hotel

A definite favourite of mine whenever we travel back to Adelaide to catch up with friends. The owners are nice enough to put on the footy when asked, and change the volume for us. Lovely people and great staff all round. The food is very tasty. The pulled pork salad really hit the spot. I love the eclectic furniture and the many rooms to explore. Cant wait to return!

Brand new menu tonight (April 2). Porchetta and Fennel sausage with mashed potatoes, and the Coonawara Flat Iron Steak were excellent. Nice atmosphere and great service. We will be back

I still remember when this was a grubby old pub just over the bridge from Adelaide. Well, the bridge is now gone (because a goods train accidentally smashed into it) and the pub has also undergone a massive transformation. Gone are the old men surrounding the bar and in are the trendy young people looking for a place to have a decent meal and to feel, well, trendy. I must say I really like this place now, especially with its 60s bohemian theme and pop art on the walls (especially the Andy Wharhol comby vans). The certainly do a decent schnitzel, which is always a good thing in my books, but this is also a great place to simply sit back, chill, and let the atmosphere roll over you. Oh, they also seem to have a fine dining restaurant as well, with slightly different art on the walls, which also adds a lot of character.

I went with some friends for breakfast on a Sunday. It was incredibly quiet, which doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
Parking was super easy, as the car park was essentially empty and service was quick and efficient.
It has a old school yet trendy feel with some really interesting art. Definitely worth a look.
The food was good. I had poached eggs and bacon which was quite lovely. Others in my group had granola and brioche with berry compote and it all looked excellent. Beautifully presented and generous portions.
I do suspect that we dined on a super quiet day and the vibe would be very different on a Friday night.

It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine!
This trendy pub in the middle of Mile End has managed to escape my radar until recent renovations and über cool Instagram pics popping up of their quirky interior. If you like dining in the presence of a mounted deer head chandelier, gazing up at a summer’s sky and a Gary Seaman’s graffiti art from a beer garden or toileting under the deep blue sea then this bar is for you.
I also appreciate that it hasn’t gone so far industrial chique that it’s attracting the hipster crowd and it has managed to maintain a cosy, casual pub feel.
I am teetering on 3.5 stars though here more than 4 and that is because this place suffers from the «we’ve upgraded our pub and therefore we’re going to charge you restaurant prices,» syndrome.
We dined on Blackened Salmon with a green mojo sauce, quinoa, pomegranite and pretty flouncy veg on the side ($ 28) and a Coorong Angus Flat Iron Steak with chips ($ 25). Sounds fancy, but it was a bit too simple pub meal in taste and presentation (see the photos). Both meats were perfectly cooked but the lack of side with the steak and the basic uncooked cucumber, tomato and mango with the salmon didn’t make up for the fact it was served with a smashing sauce and quinoa. Top that off with 2 beers costing $ 18 and a small serving of potato skins (which were out of this world and served with tzatziki & chutney) for $ 10 and we felt a little too light of wallet at the end of the night.
I’d definitely go back here for snacks, drinks and the atmosphere with a group but probably not to dine in. Perhaps a longer Happy Hour (more than 5−6pm on weekdays) would help for those on a budget like us?

I first noticed this pub because of the new banners out the front, They looked fresh, crisp, clean and funky. All the things I didn’t think this hotel was — they screamed out «I’ve changed»
So true!
It’s fabulous and funky. Walk around all the areas so you don’t miss anything before you decide where to sit. There’s a mural by Gary Seaman and loads of great artwork, plus open fires! There’s a beer garden that manages to look and feel cosy even in winter.
I have had two visits there and the first one tried the bowl of chips and the tapas prawns. Both delicious. The prawns were large and succulent and so flavoursome. The chips were fluffy and crisp and the aioli was tangy and tasty.
On the second visit I enjoyed the barramundi, chips (yes, more chips!) and salad. The salad was so fresh and the fish was tasty and fresh. There is a choice of crumbed, battered and grilled, which is great, as I always like grilled and often have to ask specially. My partner had the lamb burger and loved it.
The only slight downside was that the serving wasn’t really big, but I might have been feeling a bit hungry that day!
They have Scott Fiano on the wine list, which I love and is a wine that’s not that easy to find on wine lists, so that was pretty exciting.
The staff were friendly and informative, happily stoking the fire and answering questions about the building and the refurbishments.
I highly recommend The End!

A fairly old style Aussie pub, the Mile End Hotel is less about glitz and glamour and more about cold beer and pokies.
Despite the Considerably cheaper drink prices and close proximity to town, the Mile End Hotel, caters manly to residents who live nearby, and is generally fairly quiet.
The décor is fairly unfashionable, although that has never deterred me.
