Ever since this bakery changed owners, it’s gone down hill… And fast. I used to go here everyday, always something little. This changed to once a week. And most recently after today — never. It really depends on which person who serves you. You could get the really lovely one or the person who never smiles and always looks like she’s not happy to be working. The pies are now awful and taste 2 days old. Today, after their 100th time of not having anything chicken, I decided to get a spinach and ricotta roll. Once I bit into this dry, burned monstrosity I looked inside only to see that there was no filling left in it. This poor ricotta roll was cooked so long that it’s contents shrivelled and died. What happened the the award winning pies this bakery had to offer? Sadly all this place has to offer now is horrible service and sub par food.

Ray’s is a lovely little gourmet bakery at Morningside. The bread is always at a really high standard, fresh and soft. They also have your typical bakery range of pies, sausage rolls, cakes and drinks. The pasties are amazing and the service is quite good, I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be served although it is usually quiet when I tend to go. The cakes are not bad although they are quite sweet, really good if you have a sweet tooth, not so good if you prefer savoury snacks. I definitely recommend the caramel tarts. I am yet to try any of the birthday cakes so I can’t advise on them unfortunately.
