Two great reasons for shopping at this store: support a Aussie designer and keep a local business running.
It’s a small store, with a distinctive collection of smart to formalwear, focusing on race or wedding style, with a few evening gowns to boot. As well as John Cavill designs, the store carries a few select imported labels, most distinctively the Italian brand, Save The Queen.
Like many designer stores, it’s hit and miss — in one range there’ll be five things you can choose from, and in the next there’s nothing, but John has an established name in Australian fashion for good reason.
And I have to confess to a little starry-​eyed moment. A dress I bought last summer developed a fault, and when I went in to discuss it with them, it was John himself who was in the store, and who took one look at the dress and immediately arranged a complete replacement. Now that’s standing behind your brand.
