On the face of it, you’re already paying hefty fees when you buy a house — ok, so the agent’s commission is taken off what the seller receives, but effectively it’s you that’s handing over the cash. Why pay another fee to involve another intermediary?
Having completed our purchase, I’ll give you two good reasons why we did, and why we would do again in the same circumstances …
1) the buyer’s agent is acting for you alone and can give you an independent opinion of the current market value of the property
2) if he’s worth his salt, the value you achieve in your transaction will more than compensate for the lump sum due to him.
