When one of your animal loving friends says«hey, I’ve got a spare ticket to the«Roar and Snore» at Taronga Zoo«do you want to come?»… is there any hesitation? Well there wasn’t for me… and all I can say is «thanks again Keren for an amazing time»… So I was excited for weeks leading up to our adventure… So we headed to Taronga Zoo around 5-ish where were greeted at the gate and take to an information centre, where we got to me and play with the cutest echidna!(Love at first spike)… Then we headed towards our camping grounds where we were given our tents — very plain, but perfectly facilitated and comfortable. No need to bring a sleeping bad — they have proper beds and bedding so you’re taken care of… Next stop the little eatery in the middle of the camp site which overlooks the Sydney harbour — and with a glass of wine, cheese, crackers and twisties — you watch the sunset on the most magnificent city… but… you’re not alone… because your guides come baring slithery friends — dragons and snakes for you to play with — if you so desire. After light snacks we were taken to the canteen for proper dinner… this was the only disappointing part of the trip… the food was mediocre bordering on bad… After having the classy experience of wine and crackers, dinner was very underwhelming… To make up for the sad food, they excited us with our next adventure — a night tour of the zoo. Wow, what a treat. You get a whole new perspective seeing the zoo and its animals at night… plus you pretty much have the zoo to yourself so it feels like you’re a VIP getting a privileged view outside opening hours. Post about a 90 minute tour, you head back to camp where tea, coffee, hot choclate and cakes is available before you head back to your tent and head to bed… And then it delivers… from your tent you hear it all. The lions, elephants, monkeys, birds — its amazing. The sounds are so special, you will never fall asleep to anything like this ever again… Up at around 5 something to have a shower and a quick breakky before heading for your morning tour… may I suggest you get up and shower(not because you smell) but because you will watch the most gorgeous Sydney harbour view from the bathroom window… seriously breathtaking… Post breakky, one last group tour as you head around the zoo, getting the opportunity to go into the giraffe enclosure to feed these maganificent creatures, followed by patting a sealion and lastly a chance to meet a few kangaroos and a koala. The gates open after nine and you’re welcome to stay at the zoo all day… But once you’ve had the VIP experience — crowds seem really annoying and nothing could beat the once in a lifetime experience.
