A view to die for. Love this house and the setting! As another Unilocaler mentioned, this was the home of May Gibbs. I think of her as the Australian version of Beatrix Potter with her integration of adorable characters and Australian bush plants(Ex: gumnut babies ) into her stories! The house is kept like it was originally at the time May Gibbs lived there. Fascinating to see the types of furniture and especially the kitchen! I used to live around the corner from here and would also volunteer here and run the tea room/café. Don’t know if it is open on a regular basis now, but at the time it was at the mercy of volunteers. They also offered birthday parties here as well!

Place rating: 5 Sydney, Australia
Winding around the lanes of Kurraba Point there is one beautiful little street called Wallaringa Avenue. And on this street is at No. 5 which is Nutcote the beautiful harbourside home and garden of May Gibbs who was the author of one of Australia’s most popular children’s books. — Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. Nutcote was created and built for May Gibbs and her husband J Kelly by Sydney Architect BJ Waterhouse. May Gibbs lived and worked at Nutcote for 44 years. May Gibbs other works included Little Ragged Blossom and the comic strip Bib and Bub. Nutcote is open to the public and it’s worth visiting this harbour side home which has been faithfully restored and refurbished in the style of the 1930’s. From the garage that is used as a gift shop down through the gardens to the studio within the house is exactly how May Gibbs envisaged compact, convenient and charming. We have been here for a few weddings, first birthday and meetings for our local community group. And have also enjoyed a sandwich and a coffee in the Bib and Bub tea room that overlooks the cottage garden. Admission into the home is $ 8 for adults, $ 3 for children, $ 17 for a family and $ 5 for concession. Yearly memberships are also available. Watch out for family days by checking the website which are regularly celebrated here. It’s an amazing space to celebrate any occasion and even more enjoyable for a family day out to wander around this historical home. Searching for it is half the fun.
