BEWARE! New and UNFAIR owners at ball and skittle! I went into this store today to buy my son his birthday present with the voucher his great aunt had given him for his birthday and they flat out refused to honour it because they are the new owners and so they believe they have no responsibly to honour the voucher which was purchased before they succeeded the business. When they took on the business, they gladly accepted the entire database of clientele and the good name that the store had made over the years but were not willing to honour a legal contract made after buying the business. To show how classy the new business owners are, they treatened to call security when I said I would make a formal complaint to consumer affairs. These incompentents should not be running a business and I encourage everyone to go to a more customer focused store with way friendlier people where you can deal with adults. Why would you want to be treated like this when you can shop somewhere with more class as well as exciting kids toys .

Ball & Skittle has recently become one of my favourite toy stores. This little store in the Mezz looks fun, and invites you to come in and look around. It is full of good quality, educational and unusual toys from Australia and around the world. No cheap plastic or garish merchandise here. This is reflected in the price, with most being at the top end. However, I personally think that the quality is worth the price. Especially if you have more than one child. The toys will last through all the siblings, making them better value for money than the cheap plastic stuff. I love the Villa Cartoon Costumes. Cotton costumes that your child can colour in and then let their imagination take them to far off lands. The decoylab animal wall clocks will bring fun to any child’s bedroom.

What a beautiful shop this is! It’s mostly a toy store, but there are some fab things that adults(or adultescents) would like, even if only for conversation pieces around the house. The miniature hot air balloons are so intricately designed, you’d think they would actually float by themselves(alas, they need to be hung). There’s a gorgeous array of subtly decorated lamp shades that would posh up any kid’s bedroom, and could even suit an adult’s room. Aside from some rather unique homewares, there are stacks and stack and stacks of toys, from the traditional(stuffed bunnies) to the more esoteric(magic spell boxes). Even big yellow rubber duckies. You could spend hours retrogressing in this place, even if you don’t have kids of your own!

This is an old school child’s dream, you won’t find any digital or electronic gadgets or games here this is all about playing with educational toys and having fun the old way — and personally I think it’s much nicer seeing a child play with wooden cars and puzzles than with an Ipad or Iphone. Ball & Skittle stocks everything from lovely children’s décor; like lamps, art work and wall paper, to wooden toys, organic teddies, colouring costumes and even(and probably my favourite) packs to create your own Kaleidoscope or veggie patch! Another quirky little thing I loved was their funny and cute range of chop sticks especially the fortune cookie ones, great and funny little gift even for a more mature person. This is seriously a great children’s store with unique toys you won’t find in your commercial ones, although it’s a bit more pricey at least you know it hasn’t been heavily mass produced as most of artefact’s are Australian made.

Considering I am not a mother, nor a particularly big fan of children in general, one would be surprised to learn that I really liked this shop regardless of it being fundamentally a toy store. What make’s it even stranger is that I visited this self proclaimed«emporium» during Christmas time, which I hate, with a passion. I still kind of liked it. Located at the Mezz in Mount Hawthorn, Ball and Skittle is a quirky and very original toy store. With a HUGE variety of toys ranging from organically made ones to room decorations and small furniture pieces, this is the perfect place to buy a gift for a very special child. Reasonably priced with an awesome online store to boot, I’d highly recommend a trip here next time a SPECIAL child is in need of a gift. I repeat, only for special children.
