Neutral Bay Bar and Dining

I went here with a largish group. Maybe it was our group, or maybe I just ordered badly, but I just didn’t get much from this place. It wasn’t that bad really but there’s just so many other terrific place in NBCM to choose from!

The Angus Cheeseburger at Neutral Bay is amongst the best in Sydney. The Neutral Bay Cheeseburger uses a simple, juicy, and flavor-​packed recipe to earn this respect. Tender and juicy loose packed Coorong Angus beef serves as a base. Topped-​up with a flavorful pickle, tomato relish, cheese, and onions. The reduction of the tomatoes in the relish creates a beautiful pairing with the cheese. Meanwhile your mouth waters from the perfectly cooked Angus’ rich flavor and tangy pickle. The black sesame bun is fresh and does a good job to hold the burger together (while looking cool). However, it is the only ingredient of the entire package I would say could use some improvement.
For pulling off an almost perfect burger Neutral Bay Bar and Dining is definitely worth a trip. Add in hand-​cut chips, a relaxed atmosphere, and a great drinks menu for a neighborhood hit across the Sydney harbor.

This is the north shore sibling to The Glebe Point Diner, and a wonderful pair they make.
Ambience is great, a lovely little bar in front who peanuts in the shell are provided and a wine list of respectable provenance — quite a few by the glass or carafe, or whatever they call the little glass jug. Nice range of cocktails also.
The menu is nice, a good range sufficient to have me dithering over what to have. Entrée, pork belly was always going to be me, but for a main, hmm. Duck and mushroom pie was calling me, as was pork shoulder with apple slaw, but in the end I settled on a scotch fillet with hand cut chips.
We were in a little early on Saturday night but within an hour or so the place was chocker, a good sign in the notoriously fickle dining precinct of Neutral Bay.
The food was all delicious, the wait staff helpful and friendly, some of my fave wines on the list, so with a glass of red, some dead animal on my plate I was as happy as the proverbial pig in the brown stuff.
Big ups for the Aesops products in the bathroom too — and real cloth hand towels, woohoo!
Will be back for the duck pie, for sure.

By evening, the soft lighting of the small front bar greets you. It’s a tad dark but womb like and inviting. The friendly and efficient Front of House man welcomes us and remembers that we spoke earlier to secure a rare last minute reservation.
We’re shown to one of the high backed leather booths and already I love it. Staff swish around this place with an easy confidence and it adds an certain level of security. You can relax and be taken care of.
Watching the team in the kitchen through the upon galley adds a sense of drama to the affair and it’s nice to how happy they all look given their considerable workload.
I started with a ‘French 75′ which is Gin, lime, lemon and Prosecco served in a cute wide glass — delish and wonderfully potent. Oh, yea we had food too. Perfectly seasoned Jewfish that was plated attractively though not fussily.
It’s the perfect place for date night or with a big group. It’s got a great atmosphere — buzzy and vibrant with nice tunes playing in the background but we could easily converse, so if they’ve worked hard on the acoustics, it’s paid off. We will return to this place. It feels special but not inaccessible. It’s hard to be appear this effortless. Great job.
