Given the other reviews here, I find myself questioning my mediocre views on this restaurant. I can’t say there is anything bad about the place, it just didn’t strike me as being particularly special, particularly given the prices they’re charging. In my world, $ 30 – 40 mains should represent fine dining quality, which I didn’t find this to be. The food was nice, but relatively simple and plain. The red wine came out at room temperature — which is not the way it should be on a hot summer’s day(if you’re cursing me as you read this, red wine«room temperature» is supposed to be French cellar room temperature, about 17 degrees to be exact). Not in a rush to go back, unfortunately.

I hate to be the turd in the punch bowl here, but if you’re looking for a fine dining experience … keep looking. The food was ok but unexceptional, while the service was pretty ordinary to be honest. Our waiter was missing in action for much of the evening. I don’t want to bag this place too much but I was expecting much better after reading many rave reviews.

Im impressed, the service was amazing and fast, tip book ahead for a weekend night as they get busy. The food is Devine and mains range from $ 28 to $ 36 but I can tell you it’s so worth it, seating is inside or out and good for groups. They have wine and beer only no spirits

Last night was the second time I have been at this business in the last 6 months. The first time was a quieter mid week, last night was nearly a packed house. And we had no booking for our table of 5. Staff were incredibly helpful, found us a table and even apologised that the only available one would be a bit cramped. Previously we were served by the owner, he was polite but a bit distant. Last night his team of floor staff were on fire. The girls who looked after us were attentive… water bottle never empty, plates cleared quickly, food explained if we wanted. The food, different, delicious, reasonable portions(we ordered the $ 39.00 a head banquet) The bread with the entrees was to DIE for, yummmm. The dips made there I think divine. The plates of dishes for the mains were equally divine. Nothing was left, we were all stuffed and it ended up being a perfect evening all round. Highly recommend this place for the food, if you go on the busier nights I think the staff will be very capable of making your evening more than enjoyable. Tip! Order the trio of dips with the fresh bread. Order the hot dolomades!!!

so. much. good. food. I went here with a large group, so we all got the ‘banquet’ option, which allowed us to taste a wide variety of the Persian cuisine! There was so much food and not just any food… but well seasoned and authentic! The starter included *homemade* Turkish bread with 6 different spreads. hazelnut, eggplant, capsicum, pesto/pinenut(my fave!), etc. Other highlights of the meal were the Caspian chicken with saffron and a lamb curry. They also have a good selection of vegetarian options. Some of the flavors were unusual, but they worked… like the cream saffron chicken with balsamic vinegar… more please!

For me the name Zafron immediately inspires an onset of homer-esque drooling. This place is always booked out on weekends which is a testament to the powers of this little persian restaurant. The lighting is soft and the ambience is relaxed, but the main drawcard is the FOOD. Oh sweet sweet persian food how I wish I could adequately describe your deliciousness. Unlike the sickly sweet and cloying«Arabian» dishes I’ve been fooled with, Zafron serves some of the most authentic and rich persian I have encountered. In fact for several minutes, all me and my dining companions could do was exchange silent and stupefyingly chuffed looks over forkfuls of food. My hands down favourite would have to be Khoresht-i-Gormeh Sabzi a rich and slow cooked lamb stew with persian dried limes and saffron rice, Another family favourite is the Albaloo Polo, the sweetest cherry rice you will ever encounter. With an equally delicious dessert menu and large servings that are great for sharing, I definitely recommend trying this place out.

I had an exceptional night of dining at Zafron with a delightful friend of mine who I hadn’t seen for ages. We were looking for somewhere different to go for dinner, and as he was staying in the Valley we thought we’d check it out. Zafron serves delicious and genuine Persian fare — warm flatbreads, great dips, and a superb variety of mains and entrees. I had the Vegetable Taigine and my delightful friend had the Khoresht-i-Gormeh Sabzi, a fabulous stew. The atmosphere is lovely and we brought our own wine as they are operating as a BYO venue only. There are plenty of bottle-os on Brunswick Street to pick up some beverages from. Staff are lovely, friendly and warm — you really feel like you’re getting a legitimate Middle Eastern experience, it’s a really fab place to get some really delicious, hearty food.

My friend has had her and her partner’s birthday dinners twice here two years in a row they loved it so much. They knew the owner Michael they’d gone there so much, they were even on kissing on the cheek terms. They must go there a lot. I can totally see why. Located on Brunswick St in New Farm, this little place is a few doors down from a café I got my first authentic italian hot chocolate from. Very casual outside and inside dining and it’s the kind of place that would never stand out and it’s the kind of place I walked past until I realised my friends were all in there waiting for us. The restaurant usually books out so make your reservations beforehand on Friday-Sunday nights. We had the food there — the Caspian Chicken mainly. Maybe it was my penchant for sauces with fresh ingredients and pine nuts… maybe the food was just cooked perfectly, I don’t know, but when I took my first bite(with sauce) I was wishing the plate was bigger and guarding it from straying forks from across the table. The ‘oh can I have a taste’ fork was not going anywhere near my dish. I rarely feel that way about food… but when I do, I am armed and a bit dangerous. We also ordered the smoked duck breast, with porcini mushrooms in the sauce and that was pretty good too, but I really liked my chicken. There were drugs in it I swear. With prices around the $ 25-$ 35 for your main meal, it is definetely worth the fair you pay. Spoil yourself every now and then I say… check Zafron on Brunswick out, bring your man or woman. Enjoy your night… then wander down a few shops to get that amazing Italian hot chocolate.
