Excellent seafood. You can order at the fresh seafood bar and then done in. A throw back to the old days where you could go to your local fish and chip store where you can order and eat right then and there. Bonus; they have a very well stocked bar. Note: if you want the fresh seafood order from the fresh bar not the menu(better value for money that way)

Reef is nice for some fresh delicious, not dripping in oil seafood! And also a jug of Sangria is never a bad thing! I’ve been here a few times, Sangria jugs are good for after work drinks or a Relaxing afternoon with friends! The oysters Kilpatrick is delicious as is the snapper burger! Definitely recommend a visit to reef!

Hands down the best fish and chips I’ve had in Brisbane. Absolutely gorgeously presented, perfectly fresh and so so yummy. I love that my baked barramundi was served with a teeny saucepan of melted butter for me to pour over the top! It’s definitely on the more expensive side of the scale when it comes to fish and chips. If you’re imagining a parcel wrapped in newspaper and eating with your hands on the beach this is probably not the right place. But it is so so good. Highly recommended. I even visited here on Good Friday, and it was absolutely packed. But service was still top notch and as quick as ever. I do have to say dining in is definitely better than takeaway — but to no fault of the restuarant. Takeaway simply means you end up with slightly soggy beer batter and chips, but that’s also dependent on the time between purchasing and eating as well.

For being a restaurant, it doesn’t offer a booking service which makes it a little difficult on a Saturday night for a bite to eat. So we ordered the $ 99 seafood platter, a mix of fresh and cooked seafood and sushi. The fresh fish(blue swimmer crab, king crab legs and bugs) were a little disappointing as they were overcooked and were cooked in fresh water thereby giving it no flavour(which was a shame because they were full!). Having been very busy, the fried stuff(chips, calamari and fish) were luke-warm because they had obviously cooked up a large batch but left it on the counter to add to dishes(it could be seen on the counter as it is all open). Sushi was great, oysters were sweet and the kilpatrick oysters were nice. Overall it is a large platter for two people and if it the fresh stuff had flavour it is definitely well worth it.

I was guided by my love of the ocean to Reef. However, wearing flippers and a wetsuit proved unnecessary as this isn’t an actual, inner city reef for free diving. So foolish. No, this is a fish shop and restaurant. Seafood breakfast is king. Egg white omelet with crab is simple yet perfect. I can’t judge the fried things because I don’t eat that garbage. I can, however, vouch for the selection of bugs, Alaskan king crab legs, oysters, and all other types of creatures that can breathe underwater. Oh, smoked trout is also worth some praise. This score is based on the massive selection and general quality of the fishes on ice.

That fine line between hunger and hangry, and hanger was looming over my head as I finished a lunch-time meeting that didn’t involve lunch. Determined not to fall into old habits of grabbing a coffee and some kind of banana bread, I went for the healthier option of buying a few pieces of take-away sushi. Reef Seafood + Sushi couldn’t have been in better position to get my late-lunch time dollars. It’s counter service and the sushi is pre-made already displayed in the cabinet. Prices range from $ 4.50 for the 8 piece small tuna bite size rolls to $ 7 for a hand roll cut into four. I opted for an 8 piece small tuna and an 8 piece small salmon. Fresh and satisfying as they may be, $ 11 for the small amount was a little steep. Still, it saved me from rolling into hangry ginger and meant I kept my resolution to eat better in 2014 thus far so worth it, right? Either way — if you’re after sushi or seafood to take home(there was even an octopus tentacle ready for someone to take home) this new kid on the Gasworks block should be your pick.

This is a great spot tucked away in the old Gasworks that mixes Japanese inflected seafood(miso scallops, tuna don, etc) with seafood classics like lobster mornay and fish and chips. The real star during my visit was the Coffin Bay oysters, which were absolutely huge, delicious and incredibly fresh. I had them natural, and my friend had them kilpatrick – I’ve never seen oysters laden with so much bacon and Worcestershire sauce! They were totally decadent. The tuna don was fresh and well-presented. Service is not intrusive and you order at the counter. They have a good selection of sake and umeshu too.
