I notice this place has changed hands, and I have to say they’ve improved the food quite considerably. Previously a fallback when my regular spots were out of chicken or closed, the chicken here is good enough now to stand on it’s own… well, ok, it’d be scary if a well roasted golden brown headless chicken DID stand on it’s own, but lets face it, isn’t that what you’d expect from(big boomy movie superhero announcing voice now) Captaiiiiiiiinnnnnnn Chickkkkkkennnnnnnnnn??? Yes. I do call it Captaiiiiiiiinnnnnnn Chickkkkkkennnnnnnnnn. It amuses the kids, and quite amuses me, too. Various combinations of «Look, up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane… it’s Captaiiiiiiiinnnnnnn Chickkkkkkennnnnnnnnn» and«Faster than a speeding pullet… it’s Captaiiiiiiiinnnnnnn Chickkkkkkennnnnnnnnn» have been known to keep me amused for, well, minutes. The chickens are plump, juicy, and tasty. Chips are crisp and come in a good sized serving. The salads have improved dramatically — especially the coleslaw, nice and fresh and full of crispness. Plenty of parking nearby in the Newton Shopping Centre carpark. Silly name, good food. Recommended.
