Captain Chicken Newton

I notice this place has changed hands, and I have to say they’ve improved the food quite considerably. Previously a fallback when my regular spots were out of chicken or closed, the chicken here is good enough now to stand on it’s own… well, ok, it’d be scary if a well roasted golden brown headless chicken DID stand on it’s own, but lets face it, isn’t that what you’d expect from (big boomy movie superhero announcing voice now) Captaiiiiiiiinnnnnnn Chickkkkkkennnnnnnnnn???
Yes. I do call it Captaiiiiiiiinnnnnnn Chickkkkkkennnnnnnnnn. It amuses the kids, and quite amuses me, too. Various combinations of «Look, up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane… it’s Captaiiiiiiiinnnnnnn Chickkkkkkennnnnnnnnn» and «Faster than a speeding pullet… it’s Captaiiiiiiiinnnnnnn Chickkkkkkennnnnnnnnn» have been known to keep me amused for, well, minutes.
The chickens are plump, juicy, and tasty. Chips are crisp and come in a good sized serving. The salads have improved dramatically — especially the coleslaw, nice and fresh and full of crispness.
Plenty of parking nearby in the Newton Shopping Centre carpark.
Silly name, good food. Recommended.
