Dark bar, local craft wines, wallpaper embossed with red velvet creep from polished concrete floors. Properly drippy candles in messy glassware on the dark wooden tables. Atmospheric, but you could probably carry on a bit of conversation here some Sundays.

What an awesome little bar. I didn’t spend a lot of time here, just a casual stop on a Sunday arvo. But it was my sort of spot. And by that I mean it had: 1. Interesting beers and a good liquor selection. 2. Comfortable seating, with tables for small and large groups. 3. Funky, laid-back décor. 4. Snacks. The bowl of chips with aili was delicious. 5. Good music. They played Hendrix, the Stones, and Leonard Cohen while I was there. 6. Live music. The band played jazz grooves, perfect for a Sunday afternoon. 7. Location, right on King St in busy Newtown.

On a quiet night, this is my favourite place to hang out in Newtown for these reasons: they have board games, OldMout cider, and among the most amazing dimly lit interior reminiscent of a bygone era country lodge. The place seems pretty packed out these days with patrons enjoying beautiful live acoustic performances, but once again, if you catch a quiet night in there, you might have our experience of sitting by candlelight playing battleships and connect-4 whilst the affable bartenders serve us «the usual» on only our second visit.

Really like this place. Use to be called Funky Bar. The food is really nice and the drinks and cocktails are pretty good. Small place but there is always place for live band music. Will be back again.
