Darley St Bistro had always been a good choice for lunch or dinner and today has been upto expectation … great presentation, great taste, great experience with the old world charm of an old school pub downstairs … Come try it … Smiles all round !

Rude staff. Can’t appreciate that we have just spent over $ 300 here between us in 3 hours. They literally put the song«closing time» on the juke box and began singing«closing time get the f*ck out» loudly at us. ok I get it, don’t be passive agressive pricks, or you get a 1 star revision from the president of you.

Keep going keep going yes past the old fellas the pool table and the tab and you will discover some of the best pub food in Newtown. Everything on the menu is worth a try from the simple steaks and burgers to the goat curries, pork belly and specials. Sit upstairs to find the cooler crowd.

The Botany View Hotel is a surpise, especially the restuarant and the dinnnig space. The front of the hotel and the main drinking area is nothing special, but head out the back to the kitchen and then upstairs to something surpirsingly fabulous. The menu is marvellous comfort food with quiet a bit of extra effort put into it — and there is a big choice. Also, the(bloody) poker machines are hidden away and you wouldn’t even know the pub had any unless youo went looking. I have eaten their three or four times prior to writing this Review and all meals have been sensational, execpt the lastest. But I am not concerned as it was the end of the New Year Long Weekend and then kitchen staff looked tired.

I went to Botany View Hotel one afternoon, that afternoon turned into an evening and as glasses of house white were had and a chicken fillet ingested, evening turned into hungover morning. I met up with my brother and a bunch of his friends at the start of the year to celebrate his birthday, they had reserved a couple of tables in the upstairs courtyard for their party. Unfortunately, the bar is downstairs, as is the kitchen and where you order. Thus, for every new drink you wanted to drink, you had to first pass a series of tests to prove that you deserved said food or drink item. The first test was the dreaded doorway challenge, you had to successfully open the door from the courtyard to the main part of the hotel, this was a challenge for as the courtyard began to fill up, just getting to the door was an issue, let alone opening it. The next challenge, should you pass the doorway, was going down the stairs. It’s a thin stair case and if someone is coming up with drinks in hand at the same time as you were descending, an issue would arise that could only be resolved by one of you being the bigger man and reversing to allow the other to pass. Given the laws of good etiquette, it is always the drink bearing person that takes priority, and thus the descender must reverse. The final challenge is getting the drinks and then repeating the first two challenges in reverse, the same issues arise and so the skills you learn going through the first two quests will aid you to complete the final step.
