From a friend: No EFTPOS; red flag. Manager took my cash and pressed«No Sale» on the till, so I asked for a proper, itemised tax invoice to spite them. Saw a 15% public holiday surcharge. Quietly asked one of the staff if they were paid proper penalty rates. No. That’s bullshit.

Food is excellent and menu options are great for breakfast, lunch dinner. Service is adequate. No flair but they don’t need it. Drinks and food ordered arrived without a hitch and everything we ordered was cooked and presented well. I had the French Toast with bacon and banana and the portion was bigger than I’d expected. I’m just visiting but I’d highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick meal if they’re in Sydney Newtown area. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

Want Serbian food, but can’t afford to fly to Serbia not a problem! Café C has solved this problem. I was taken here by a friend who is a Serbian Orthodox Priest — this café is run by one of his partitions. As I was told this is one of the best Serbian places I would find ever. The coffee here is great. But even though the coffee here is great, trust me this is not the reason you come here — you come here because of the food. The food here is amazing! The stuffed cabbage is brilliant! And not only that but they make it here in different styles. Even the mash potatoes on the side was good enough to lick off your plate. Every dish that we got was fantastic — from the antipesto capsicums to the sour cherry pancakes. Everything we ordered was good. This also might be because I let the Serbians order for us. To added it all off, the service here was friendly and made you feel right at home. This little café will make you want to come back again and again. There is honestly nothing I can flaw about this place. So if you are looking for a nice café, with an Eastern European feel, then look no further.

Super duper cute café in the heart of Newtown perfectly poised for whiling away a beautiful morning and people watching. My breakfast was just OK and the service was a bit spotty. Poached eggs were a little overdone and rubbery. They have a really impressive cake display and i noticed a board in the back that said«Serbian Lunch Specials»… with the standard Eastern European fare like Ghoulash and what not. Winters coming! Take note! that stuff is very yummy on a «cold» wintery day.* I think this place would be great if you have a sweet tooth or you want to eat meaty Eastern European stews. Breakfast was not too shabby, but I’ve had better. I would come back and try it again. Coffee was actually really good, I really enjoyed it. * The quotes are because our cold here in Sydney is laughable, but I will humour you native Sydneysiders whose teeth chatter at 10C, heheh.

So I’ve been coming here quite regularly. After our juggling group has a juggling sesh(wanna learn how to juggle? Google«Newtown Jugglers,» hehe — sorry, I had to put that in there) we always end up at Café C for a meal. They’ve been nice enough to keep the kitchen open for us at that relatively late hour, so yay. First and foremost, their cakes are amazing. I’ve last sampled the chocolate cake it was so moist and chocolate-y. Yum. Second, their food is really good. I’ve had a variety of soups and specials and their food has consistently tasted above average for me. Lately they’ve been having $ 10 specials. I had the $ 10 rump steak and it was really yummy. I can honestly say it was the best $ 10 steak I’ve ever had. I think I’ll have it again next week!

Yum, had ricotta and honey on sourdough toast for brunch. The guys were nice enough to swap the actual order from turkish to sourdough for me. Had a very nice soy flat white which was well made. The only bummer is if you sit outside, the traffic noise can get really loud but overall will be back!

Poor service but strong cocktails. We stopped off here for a cake and cocktails flyby and were a little disappointed by the outcome. The place really needs a going over with some cleaning and perhaps some better waitresses. The cakes were a winner however, and they server large portions.

Im such a sucker for the all day breakfast joints, and Café C is no exception. Its a small, casual and relaxed café, with friendly staff, and reasonably priced food. I got caught up in an all too familiar situation at Café C, where I sheepishly admitted to my gal pal that I had never tried french toast in all my years. I got that jaw-drop reaction(you know the reaction; the one thats always followed with the exclaimed«You’ve NEVER tried/seen/heard *insert awesome, life altering thing* YET?!?) which instantly made me feel like Ive missed out on something major. Well the mood was right so I succumbed to the peer pressure and lost my french toast virginity at Café C. The plate was more than inviting when it arrived at my table — thick pieces of hot french toast, crispy bacon, banana, and all drizzled with maple sizzurp. I’ll admit it, after the first bite, I struggled to understand why i waited so long to indulge. As a first timer, you’d argue my reputability for knowing what good french toast tastes like, so I ask you to take the words from my gal pal(with an array of french toast experience under her belt), who said it was up there as one of the best french toasts she has tried.

Just your standard everyday café really. The breakfasts are good and the prices are reasonable. I’ve been going there for years and see no reason to stop.

Went here for dinner tonight and really enjoyed it! Atmosphere is really nice with candlelight and soft lighting creating some«mood». The service was really friendly and professional. We had delicious meals of pumpkin ravioli and salmon, both which we thoroughly enjoyed with a glass of red! Also had a sneaky slice of chocolate and coffee cake which was delicious washed down with a nice cuppa!

Lovely place for family and friends. Great food(modern Australian?) good service and good coffee and cake to finish. What more could you want in a casual café?

Looking for a killer cake? This place has intense looking monster cakes — cheese cake, sticky date, black forest, all the classics. But I really, really wanted a banana milkshake. It took them 25 minutes to make it. And when it arrived, it tasted like«banana flavour» and seemed like it had no actual fruit in it. The colour was an intense weird yellow. It was like drinking sugary, yellow milk. It was one of those, «damn, why didn’t I just go home and make it myself?» moments.

So we’re adults, and with that comes the privilege of getting to do whatever the hey-o we want to… right?! I tend to use and abuse this privilege in many different ways, but amongst my favourite is treating myself to a dinner of cake and red wine. I sauntered on in one balmy, weeknight evening with a couple friends. Before taking a seat at one of Café C’s outdoor tables, the three of us stood transfixed before the cake display case for probably far too long(«while visions of sugarplums danced in our heads?»). There were no fewer that a dozen different types of cakes, pies and tarts. And they all looked fluffy and glossy and magnificent. We ended up ordering a bottle of red, which was quite reasonably priced indeed. We also ordered a slice of chocolate with ganache, another chocolate candy bar(I believe it was Mars bar), and a slice of carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. When the slices arrived at our table I was both shocked and amazed to find that each was approximately the size of a baby’s head. With fork(or perhaps spoon?) in hand, we all went burrowing. I found all three cakes to be completely and utterly delicious. The standout was the carrot because of the richness of the frosting. Both chocolate slices were a tad on the dry side, but luckily we had the red, red wine to wash it all down. Definitely a great indulgent mistake. One to be made again quite soon.

For whatever reason, and it’s probably one of societal conditioning and repeated exposure to it, when I see Café C. And I look at that big C, I think, «What does that stand for? It must be cancer.» But that’s my hang up and should not reflect on the café at all. Café C is a great little coffee spot which is great for a tasty breakfast or a hot cup of Joe, or both if the mood suits. I went for breakfast one morning with a friend, we got some fruit to share and a fruit smoothie each. A very fruity but not very sustenance fuelled meal. It was delicious though and the atmosphere in the café is one of friendship and warmth. The wooden textures and open windows make for natural dining and as I recall it was a fine morning with light scattered Cirrus clouds and a bright shining sun in the sky. Yellow and hot and tanning our skins. To avoid the Big C we walked into Café C and ate some free radical fighting fruits under shade of roof.

Hot breakfast spot. C it and say it off the menu at café C — this eatery has all the traditional breakfast and lunch favourites. I like to know that you can rely on the fact that you can go into a café ask them for a milkshake and not have to look at the menu, if you know what I mean? This place is casual but they put pride in their food. It’s counter service so don’t sit at your table waiting for someone to come along and take your order as it won’t happen. But they do bring it out to you. This is a good spot for a breakfast out on a work day if you live around Newtown as it’s close to Newtown train station you won’t be far away from your ride into a great day at work.

At Café C you can have lunch and dinner, but I only ever have cakes and thick shakes. They make the best thick shakes I have ever had, it is the Snickers shake, at $ 8 it is a bit expensive but it is absolutely worth it. It is so thick you could collapse a lung while trying to suck it through the straw and it is indescribably amazing. They also have a Mars shake, which I must try soon and a range of usual flavours. Also they have really interesting creamy frappes including the Caromello Koala and Bollywood Burst(which features chai, honey and cinnamon). And I cannot forget to talk about the cakes but their Bread and butter pudding is definitely something out of the ordinary, it must be experienced to be believed.
