The yum cha here tasted just like in Hong Kong. Service was quick. The restaurant is big and the décor nice. It’s a bit on the pricier side but worth it for a good meal. One of my go to Yum cha places when taking guests. I’m going to try coming here for dinner.

I had a duck banquet voucher for this place and was sooo looking forward to my duck. Unfortunately for me they only served duck skin with the smallest bit of meat with 1 super find stick of red capsicum, the same goes for the cucumber, hoisin sauce is hoisin sauce not rocket science adding that, that was my pancake. A total let down and not what I was looking for. Next course was some bland pot of soup with prawns and tofu(hugest pieces I have ever seen and lots of them) we ate at least half of this dish with rice and I didn’t think it was part of the voucher but the prawns were tasty, only for the waiter to arrive promptly tell us it was not our dish and the remove what was left of it. Not sure if they were going to resell or what, but definitely a very odd beginning to our dinning experience. In saying that the rest of the deal came with chicken & sweet corn soup, yummy, salt & pepper squid again yummy and various steamed bundles of joy which were again rather yummy. If I had known that this place was better known for Dim Sum I would not have purchased a duck banquet voucher. Misleading to say the least, especially when I know this place is rammed full at lunch times. Toilets need some maintenance and attention as well which was also disappointing, too many parts missing and leaking taps held together with gaffer tape…

The boy and I ate like ultimate fatties for under 40 bucks. Where can you get out of the door in Perth for under 40 bucks and be totally full? Dim sum joints apparently! The service was really slow, but the dim sum was super fresh. The BBQ pork buns were really tasty as were the shrimp dumplings. However, I really disliked the pork ribs. They were bone-riddled and were basically inedible. I’ll be sure to pass on those next time. I also found the hot chili to be lacking. I love to dip my dim sum in sauce, but I didn’t get a whole lot of heat or flavor from it. All in all, it was a win. Looking forward to diving more into pleasantry that is dim sum!

Arrived at 2pm on Sunday for dim sum with a friend. The restaurant closes at 3pm, so unfortunately that meant a lot of the dishes(the main ones you go to dim sum for) like pork buns and custard tarts were all gone. It’s a shame as I don’t really like to head out early on the weekends, but there’s not much point going for dim sum if all of the dishes are gone. Of the dishes they did have left the waiters were pretty relentless with offering, which would have been great if they had anything good left! The food we did try was very fresh, and of a high quality compared to some other dim sum restaurants I have been too, The salt and pepper squid tentacles were particularly good(firm but not at all chewy), which makes sense as they seem to specialize in seafood here. The prices reflect the high quality, and we paid slightly more than I am used to per person for dim sum, it was around $ 20+ each.

When i first relocated to Perth, I was invited to have Yum Cha with friends at Regal on Roe. Immediately I fell in love with the service of the staff ESP the older lady pushing the cart filled with all the yummy steamed foods. Also, I see the regular Asian families being greeted by owners & staff as if family is home. Such a great family atmosphere. Every weekend, Regal on Roe is always popular with Asians & Aussies. I think it’s a good mix & I’m very impressed Australians love the culture & food of the Chinese. Don’t think you need to book but if you come around lunchtime, be sure to wait if you come in a large crowd. Most dishes at yum Cha is delicious & I have nothing to complain about. I brought guests from overseas & they all enjoyed the food here. I only tried dinner once here with the family & my family enjoyed their meal very much. Staff are friendly & very happy to suggest dishes when you can’t decide what you like on the menu. If you talk to waitress, she might suggest something that isn’t on the menu. Ambience is classy yet practical. Bathroom, clean & tucked away right at the back of the restaurant. Regal on Roe is one of my family’s flavourite restaurant. I meant my hubby love this place hence, we will be back whenever yum Cha comes into our mind :)

A friend and I hit this place for dinner a while back. Luckily she was Asian and did all the ordering which as fine by me… Actually that was by design :-) We had the salt and pepper squid, a tofu dish, garlic shrimp and beef with broccoli along with some fried rice. As with most of the places in Perth’s pseudo Chinatown, they are lightening fast. This place in more family style instead of late night like that others. I believe they do Dim Sum on Sunday’s. The food arrived in about 5 minutes and everything was delicious as expected. I’d recommend to whoever needs a Chinese fix in a hurry. Stay sexy fellow Unilocalers!

My new beloved yum cha haunt. The true test of a good yum cha joint is how busy it is and this place is consistently packed. I always try and convince my fellow diners to get there on opening at 10:30am and usually don’t have a problem. Saturdays are a little less busy than Sundays too. I have turned up at 11am on a Sunday though and the wait wasn’t long, and definitely worth it. Onto the food– everything is fresh and tasty, with all your favourites available. No sogginess or gluggy dumplings here. The steamed pork buns are the best I’ve ever had(and I’ve had A LOT of these delicious buns in my time). If you have a penchant for something in particular(fried squid is a must every yum cha session I have), you can order it from the friendly staff and it will be delivered quickly. Most importantly I’ve never gotten a dreaded MSG headache from Regal on Roe. It’s pretty cheap, expect around $ 20 a head for a belly busting amount of food. I even managed to convert my Dad who was a regular at another yum cha restaurant in Northbridge, so it really must be good!

As a seasoned dim sum /yum cha consumer, I’m more than happy to stumble across any given purveyor, sample their wares and decide for myself if they’re worthy of praise or not. My mother however, is the polar opposite of this. Before our spontaneous outing here, she was a self-declared hater of dim sum. She believed all chinese food tasted the same and is was«gluggy» and«overcooked». To be fair, her experience with dumplings up to this point had been the kept-warm-for-hours food court style, but nonetheless… apparently the explanation for crap food was better covered by the cuisine rather than the outlet. Anyway, I digress. My brother and I dragged our mother into Regal on Roe virtually kicking and screaming for a spontaneous late-lunch snack when the Japanese restaurant we’d gone in search of was closed. Thank goodness, Regal on Roe does a really mean yum cha service. My brother and I prefer steamed over deep fried, so our orders were solely in this category. Every single dish was extremely fresh(thank you, universe), tasty and very hot. For three of us, with chinese tea, our little education session with mother cost just $ 26. The waitstaff, despite dealing with the tail end of a Saturday yum cha rush were really patient and happy to explain the difference between dumplings and repeat the names of things for our female parental unit. I’m a big believer that you can only award 5 star ratings to places you’ve been to more than once, as consistency is a major player. If I had an equally good experience on a second trip, I’d be regrading 5 stars in a heartbeat.
