Lovely Bar and Tapas place. Came here on a Monday night, which was good as it was mostly quiet(not packed out like it usually is). Limited white wine selection(by the glass) but they did have a mulled cinnamon cider for winter which was yummy! Tapas wise, the food was brilliant. Very small morsels most of them(The Kangaroo, squid, pork croquettes) except for the Zucchini flowers which came out as a larger salad style. The Kangaroo was by far the stand out dish for me. Pass on the bean/sweet potato chips. whatever they were. We then decided to order desserts. NOTE — DESSERTSAREMOREINDIVIDUALSERVINGSTHANTAPASSTYLE. so we had to pass each dish around and each person got a spoonful. Desserts were AMAZING Masterchef worthy and truly yummy. Just note that you kinda need one all to yourself. Got to try all three though. Chocolate was rich and filling. The Lychee one was good. Refreshing and had pop rocks, Banana had a good glaze on them, making them crunch/yum! Probably a little pricey for the size of what you get, but it’s very nice.

Thanks in part to the Standard’s show dishes at the Unilocal Balcony Party I had to revisit here; previously I had considered the venue to be Moe bar than restaurant but the carpaccio changed that. Firstly it is still a cool relaxed venue for a quite after work drink or to laze away part of your weekend which was always its appeal; they have good variety of table option inside or out and some cover outside now too. The food menu is pretty wide for a venue focused on the Sunday Session vide and the quality of the dishes is high overall; in fact the two times I have been back I have walked away over full as I was enjoying things so much. The drinks menu is okay and has nice pitcher cocktails and a few interesting brews and wines to mix it up a bit. Whilst it is table service mainly I think j have had to flag down people even when the place was quite.

On our way to an early show recently Lady FWO and I ventured down to Roe Street and the Standard to have a meal and drink before checking out what turned out to be one of the best shows we have seen so far, Sweet Dreams. The Standard has an excellent garden area at the back, and a quite delightful little hide-a-way above the container that serves as the outside bar. From it you can look across the roofs of surrounding buildings and over to cranes outlined against the city skyline, or down on the diners and drinkers at the garden tables below. But on this occasion, the heat a little extreme at the time we went, we decided to sit inside and take advantage of the air conditioning. The wine list is not overly large but extremely well put together with an excellent selection by the glass — one of its major attractions the 5 rosés available. And so we set our sights on one of those — 2015 Rusden Loco Poco — peach coloured, grapefruit and strawberry fruit on the nose, a crisp and elegant palate full of citrus and raspberry flavours that finishes dry and long. The menu is built around small shared plates and we decided on four of these small dishes — it turns out they aren’t quite so small and we struggled to get through them, in fact we didn’t. The price points are very good indeed — and that probably misled us — two or at the most three plates were ample — but as the food was excellent it did no real harm to try a range. We started with a bowl of fava chips, deep fried cubes of fava bean mash, crispy skinned, inside mellow and smooth came with creamy aioli and earthy, velvety mushroom ketchup. A large serve, and would be an outstanding beer or drinks snack for another visit. White anchovies draped on paper-thin fried slices of snappy sourdough, dollops of smoked tomato and buffalo yoghurt providing brilliant contrasting flavours to the briny lusciousness of the fish. Beautifully presented and great taste and texture. Next up a board of fist sized clumps of cauliflower which had been smeared with salty, zesty, sour kimchi and fried with in light, airy tempura batter, sitting on a dab of mango chutney, coriander leaves and segments of sharp acidic lime. This was a wonderful dish of juxtaposed elements which really worked — kimchi with its range of flavours and aroma, cauliflower vegetal and crunchy, fragrant coriander, sweet and sour mango and a fillip supplied by the juicy lime. Another generous serving. Finally the highlight among many highlights — chicken prepared with Malaysian spices and served with prawn and tamarind sambal — beautifully cooked, the chicken was unctuously tender, while the spices — there seemed to be cloves, ginger, turmeric, star anise among them — supplied lifted aromatic notes to complement the zip from chilli; tamarind added a subtle sourness while the prawns gave up saltiness, sweetness — umami I guess; it was a lovely dish — and once again a substantial serve. Service is always friendly, welcoming and make the Standard a stand out place on the once neglected Roe Street. We went away very impressed, very happy that we decided to go there and set us up perfectly for the show ahead. Highly recommended.

Really nice bar with helpful staff. My friend and I enjoyed our drinks. I had the Aperol Italy(always a good choice) and he had a drink similar to a dark and stormy. We were unsure of what to order. We decided on the fava bites to start off with which were a type of bean and flour mixed into a chip like food. Although it was only an entrée my friend and I were blown away by the amazing taste and also the amazing mushroom and aioli dips that accompanied them. I highly recommend the fava bites to everyone. For my main I had the chicken beast. It was cooked really well and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a simple but well prepared dish. It also came with rice noodles, peanuts, herbs and nuoc cham. Dessert we each each had the roast banana mousse, chambord gel, peanuts and white chocolate. Yeowwww it was delicious !! The gel was a bit bitter but the rest of the dish was superb.

One of our favourite places to visit in Perth. Great spot to sit out the back on a hot day for a few beers. The food here is great and is perfect to share between a group. Highly recommend the yellow fish & pineapple curry, gooey rice balls and coconut sambal. We also dig the caramelised squid, green mango, mandarin salad and cuttlefish crackers. Staff are always friendly and the level of service doesn’t disappoint. Get here!

I love the atmosphere of the standard and especially the rooftop tables. It is a great place to go on warm nights and with groups of people as you can order a range of tapas to share with your friends. We highly recommend trying the beef carpaccio.

Last week I celebrated my birthday drinks at The Standard(second year running) and it’s always been a great place for casual afternoon drinks with friends. Both years I’ve had my party downstairs in The Wine Garden, a very pretty fit out with cushioned benches, tables, shade and good lighting. This year they had additional shades installed(which was awesome, because last year the umbrellas just weren’t enough during those really hot days). The food was great, not just the normal menu but the functions menu too. The boards I ordered were a decent sized, tasty and well presented. We tried the Charcuterie Board, Bread & Olives, Blue Goats Cheese Board, Dessert Board along with shared bowls of Crispy Rice Balls, Malaysian Chicken Bites and assorted house-made crisps. The cocktails were delicious, refreshing and strong haha. The service was also great and accommodating. They even timed my food orders to when my guests arrived. Overall, I had another awesome time celebrating my birthday at The Standard. Great food & drinks, great vibe, and great service!

I overheard a conversation about a guy who’d gone to work at some über-trendy café and they described him as «pretty much subsisting on trendy, now. He doesn’t need to eat, he just ingests trendy»…and that’s a little bit about how I feel about the setting for The Standard. It ticks all of those currently trendy boxes — exposed brick, wood, rustic shabby charm with expensive fixtures, staff balancing that aloof but approachable line, rooftop section exposing the ‘gritty’ Northbridge graffiti(back when it was just graffiti and not wall art), wall art. Everything about it just oozes…“I’m trendy”… Not being particularly cool myself(as evidenced by using the word cool), if you aren’t fitting that same hipster vibe, it can be a little intimidating when you first enter. However, dive in and it’s still a comfortable place to eat and drink without feeling like you’re being judged or not cool enough to be there. Luckily, because it has the type of food and drink that make you want to be there. The food is what amps it up beyond trendy and into the ‘serious eatery’ category. I popped in for a late lunch on a Saturday and we had the place almost to ourselves. We sat upstairs in the roof area and noted that at certain times, there would be direct sun in a lot of the courtyard/balcony areas which might be unpleasant. I am incredibly pale and subject to sunburn, so I notice these things. The view and being up there is lovely though. It’s perfect on a balmy evening. We had one of their negroni specials each — mine a Standard, and Lance the Pomegranate iteration. Both were very tasty and packed a boozy punch. The caramelised squid with green mango salad and cuttlefish crackers was a delicious opening number. The thai flavour combination combining in a refreshing salad way, and the cuttlefish crackers being a delightful prawn-crackeresque crunch going with it. The ashen black salt also a nice touch. The beef carpaccio was melt in your mouth perfect, peppery rocket and wasabi cream adding an interesting flavour note rather than the heat the word wasabi often inspires. The cidery clams were perfect to satisfy my current shellfish cravings. Creamy, garlicky yet still subtle. Could’ve done with a little more bread to sop up the delicious sauce. All in all, the food here is top-notch and not just punching out the current ‘in’ dishes. Great quality, and a real focus on textures and playful flavour combinations. It’s definitely worth coming to for an extended share plate meal, just make sure you dress ‘on trend’!

Super impressed with this spot in Perth! Creative, clever and delicious food. Helpful, attentive and friendly staff. Great atmosphere with inside and outside seating, fun setup and great facilities for all patrons(disabled toilets and accessibility was superb). Would recommend to all those visiting or living in Perth!

Just over the bridge from the CBD is one of my favourite places in Perth, The Standard. This bright, leafy sanctuary on Roe Street is one of my favourite places to stop by for an after work drink, a quick bite to eat or a leisurely Sunday lunch. On a sunny day their wine garden is to die for, and the menu is perfectly curated to never leave you wanting. I know I am getting into gushing territory a little here, but I seriously love this place. One of the things on the long list of things I love about The Standard is the fun and accessible descriptions that The Standard has on their wine menu, designed for those who don’t really understand the verbose descriptions you normally find on a label. Like the sound of a chardonnay that tastes like white peach and honeycomb, or a merlot that’s seductive with intense plum and a touch of spice? Or maybe you want a carafe of the garden state — a cocktail with gin, basil, lemon, peach & elderflower liquer and soda? You’re in the right place! And then there is the food — that’s the number one thing. They have such a varied menu, there is something on there to suit every tastebud. I simply cannot visit The Standard without having the fava bites, which are mashed and deep friend cubes of joy served with more-ish aioli and mushroom ketchup. I have a few other favourites on the current menu, including the blue goats cheese on oat cracker with honey and balsamic reduction; and the free range chicken with malaysian spice, and prawn and tamarind sambal. The potato salad with prosciutto was pretty rocking as well. Let’s be honest, everything is good — it’s a good thing the menu is designed to share, so you can go ahead and eat it all.

We had a table booked for four people and were guided to our seats as soon as we asked about our table. A little about the layout of The Standard, there is both indoor and outdoor seating with an upper level outside also. The outdoor part is decorated with fairy lights. We were seated outdoors on the lower level at a very small table in front of the bar. I did not feel like the table was big enough for 4 people considering we were all eating and had booked the table for this purpose. We ordered the Standard Charcuterie($ 27), Beef Carpaccio($ 15), Potato Salad($ 18), Garlic Clams($ 19)and the Caramelised Squid($ 16). My favourite dishes were the Potato Salad and the Beef Carpaccio. Both dishes were a generous size. The Standard Charcuterie was a disappointing size and it was recommended that it was enough for four people but it is definitely not.

This place has always caught my and have been waiting for the weather to warm up to enjoy it in the wine garden. I was invited with my foodie partner to attend a summer menu tasting. We sampled some delicious dishes, the beef carpaccio was amazing, as was the fish curry with gooey rice balls. The banana dessert was also a winner with amazing flavours and textures. This venue is definitely a place to relax and chill with some friends.

What happy accident this was last night! We had originally intended to go to Bivouac, but they were closed. So after a 30 minute walk from our hotel, we took to Unilocal to give us the next best thing, and boy they sure did. We decided to take a short-cut through an alley and just happened upon a quaint little courtyard lit with christmas lights. It glowed(as you can tell from the lighting in my pictures)! The atmosphere was laid back, with a hip and calming ambiance. I could hear Blackbird by the Beatles playing as soon as we sat down and knew this was the place for me. There were two menus on our table with a larger array of drinks than food. I was a bit concerned that the selection would be slim. The variety on their menu was wonderful. We started with the the least sweet of the two pear ciders on the menu, Fog City($ 12). We then ordered three entrees and two mains. This is not your regular-sized tapas! You will be stuffed with this amount of food, so be sure to ask your server if the portion is appropriate for your number of guests. The home-made sweet potato crisps with BBQ seasoning and salt & vinegar crisps($ 4) came out and were addicting. There seems to be a trend in Perth with addicting crisps and chips. Next came the broccolini with cranberries and nuts($ 12). Paleo as far as I know, but it depends on the oil and sauce used. Regardless, so good! Broccolini was followed by chicken wings with granny smith apples($ 12 for 5). These are not your regular wings. There is no bone and the spicy sauce on the chicken is complemented perfectly by the sweet and sour of the apple. Then the beef brisket was placed on the table($ 25). What a creative dish. It had pickles, cabbage, aioli, and was a combination I never expected to taste so good. I’ve never had brisket like this and highly recommend it. Finally, we received the chicken grill($ 22), which was accompanied by rice noodles, a slaw salad and spicy sauce. This was also very tasty. They seem to have mastered the balance of sweet and spicy here. This restaurant reminds me so much of BRC in Houston, Texas. Chef’s comfort food. I haven’t even touch on our service. Our waitress was awesome – helpful, polite, attentive, and a real pro. I know that tipping is not the norm in Perth(as it is in the US), but she earned it! If you’re ever in Perth and looking for some awesome food in a relaxing, cozy setting, check out The Standard. You will not be disappointed!

This place is quickly becoming one of my favourites around town! I’ve been here both for a function and also dinner and both times I’ve been impressed with the service and quality of the food. I can’t go past their espresso martinis — w.o.w. I’m a big fan of the fava chips, as long as I get extra aioli on the side because you can never have too much aioli :) I love the décor both inside and out, the rooftop is lovely for a small function. The standing area outside looked a little crowded for my liking so for me personally I’d prefer to plan ahead to reserve a table or area so I can focus all my attention on enjoying good company, food and those espresso martinis!

Melbourne in Perth — probably not a popular opinion possibly but I’ve not exactly been overwhelmed with the food here. The food is tapas sizes, if quite disproportionate in size for the price. We had the garlic clams, beef carpaccio and the chicken noodle dish. It wouldn’t have been enough to fill us up had we not already had a snack beforehand. The wine was excellent, the staff was friendly and patient and the atmosphere was good. Loved the outside back bit too. Would deffo be a regular here if I lived in the city.

This place is really cool!!! I love how the outside is made out of a sea container the upstairs is on top of it and the view is spectacular! Even the indoor décor is amazing! It was quite busy for a Tuesday night, my friend booked in which was a good thing. We sat upstairs on top of the sea container as I said above it was lovely and with the fairy lights around made the atmosphere quite beautiful. Very nice to enjoy a Perth summer night. The staff are friendly, menu is short but sweet(good for an indecisive person like me) and the music and vibe is fantastic! We shared which I believe is the concept here, we ordered The Standard Charcuterie board which is a well thought out platter of different cuts of cured meats and some other tasty treats which complements the meats well. The Chicken Parfait was set in a crunchy cylinder and the parfait was so creamy and tasty was delish! The greens were something different it consisted of a few different types of greens including ribbons of zucchini, fennel, blood orange and labne which was a good combination. The wine list was also good and we ordered a delicious red Urban Malbec/Tempranillo which was absolutely scrumptious a good drop of red! Overall The Standard is well set out and has such a cool vibe and awesome atmosphere that I would highly recommend people to try this place for drinks, food and just to hang out! :)

The food here is so amazing, it makes me want to swear. It is positively delicious! The garlic clams are so good, they’re sinful. I feel like I’m going straight to hell just for thinking about the dinner I ate at The Standard. If you haven’t been, you must! Right, now that I’ve gotten that out of my system… this is an extremely fine establishment, conveniently located just across the street from the Roe St bus station. The indoor section is classy, and the outdoor section is laid back. I loved the music. The wine list is captivating, and the food menu is simply droolworthy. I can’t rave enough. Just go!

After two visits, I’m clocking a 3.5 stars for Standard. I feel they are paying homage to their name. I found the service was inconsistent, the pricing is, dare I suggest ‘standard’ meaning towards the higher end, the food is interesting enough, but not wowser. I quite liked their house wine, but despite it being ‘house’ it was still $ 9 for about 150ml. So far, only one bloke can make a decent [off-menu] cocktail, with the other bar staff unwilling to make me another concoction the good barman made me. Instead of tackling it themselves, they opted to call him in off a break to make me another. Flattering for him, sure, but also a pain in the ass if he wanted to just chill out for a while. I didn’t realise this until he told me, so I apologised for disturbing him and just left after the second cocktail. Who would have thought only one person in a bar staff of five can make a decent Old Fashioned? I’m also not keen on the uncomfortable plastic seating that has even the coolest of dudes sitting in a puddle of sweat after five minutes on a slightly warm day. It’s awkward and embarrassing to stand up and see a little wet bum puddle on the seat. Note to self: don’t arrange any date there. I do like the outside area and the little mezzanine terrace, though. It’s not bad, but for me, it has to raise the standard to beat some of the other options in the 200m radius.

A stand out bar for me! I haven’t been to Melbourne but I think the outside area has that sort of vibe. It is far larger than it looks from the front with indoor seating and outdoor seating(two levels), including bars in both areas. They had really cute baubles and lights decorating the outdoor area for Christmas. The graffiti art is also really different and cool. They have free vitamin water with fruit and herbs to keep you hydrated in between drinking. The food was really delicious, I tried the clams which were cooked in a creamy style sauce with garlic sourdough. I also enjoyed the fava chips with aioli and mushroom dips, they tasted quite unique. Definitely a great new bar and will be returning for sure! An awesome place to catch up and have a fun time, with a great atmosphere!

All the reviews are correct, this place is awesome! I had my birthday gathering there this weekend, and we had such a wonderful time. There is an indoor seating area, which has a gorgeous fit-out, and all low tables(no uncomfortable stool seating yay). The giant Polaroids on the wall feature photos of the gents from the Italian Club that used to call this building home before The Standard opened. There is also a pretty decent sized two-level alfresco area, again, beautifully designed, creating a pretty dreamy drinks destination for summer. The inside is more of a restaurant set-up, whereas outside is place you could come and enjoy just drinks without food. The food is legit — larger style share plates. We tried the chicken parfait, and the incredible bread(baked in house the owner told me), chicken wings, beef carpaccio and the charcuterie plate. All were spot on! Cocktails, also great! Service, also great. Great, great, great!
