Intencity

Yeah, this place is certainly chaotic, loud and generally not conducive to the sanity of anyone over the age of about sixteen, but I am known to have frequented the air hockey table with a mate from time to time.
I don’t remember it being as disconcerting with all the terrible music and flashing lights as a young fella, but now that I’m a little bit older, I do end up feeling a bit like Grandpa Simpson when I walk in.
It is a good place to keep the kids occupied, if you’ve got the cash, and the staff appear to be really good at keeping the kiddies happy.

Air Hockey!
Does anyone remember Timezone? I was thinking about how much better it was than Intencity.
Firstly, I like to check the machines for rogue $ 2 coins, it happens, and then you have a free game of your choice on your hands. I like to choose Air Hockey, the skill tester machine or maybe a racing game. But I rarely ever come in here, there’s too much pressure to succeed, too much I say!
tickets spill out the machine when you’re done, but I think you’ll find that it’s cheaper to just go out and buy whatever is in the prize cabinet. Staff are fun and friendly, Imagine working here though, kudos to them for keeping smiles on their faces.

The staff here are really good with kids. You assume this would be standard in a kids game arcade but oddly staff being good with kids at a play venue is quite rare. The staff here never seem to tire of counting out those orange tickets and helping little toddlers pick out which colour butterfly sticker they want and which cartoon tattoo.
I’ve never had the guts to hold a birthday party here because the noise and the screaming and the small space gives me heart palpitations but we stop in regularly for the twenty minute maximum hang out I can handle before or after a visit to the movies. This Intensity has the air hockey table, which is my personal fave because it’s one of the only games I have a chance in hell of winning.

I used to love going to game arcades when I was young, and I could spend hours on end playing mindless video games. Now that I’ve matured (though my girlfriend might debate this), arcades translate into something else for me now: kids and noise.
Unless you’re a candy-​obsessed kid, this place is pure torture. The inharmonious bleeping and music blaring from the arcade games, and the screaming kids that enjoy them, are enough to drive you insane. To be honest, I have no idea how the employees do it. Thus it’s no surprise that Intencity lacks any atmosphere other than chaos. The only reason I would have to go there nowadays is to kill some time before seeing a movie next door. Usually by then there aren’t too many kids knocking around, and it’s a little less frustrating when it’s not so busy.
But my personal frustration doesn’t mean that there’s anything intrinsically wrong with the establishment. The games are great fun, and if you’re into shoot em ups you’re going to have awesome fun. The air hockey table is also great for groups, at which I’ve lost many a game. There are also some great group discount offers and lock-​in specials, which are perfect for large groups of students or birthday parties.

I walked past this store dozens of times on my way to the Hoyts cinema without realising it was a gaming arcade. That was until my son turned five.
We had his fifth birthday party here and it was the easiest and most succesful I’ve even done.
I chose Package 2, which I think was $ 15 per child for 1 ½ hours of fun with unlimited video game play, 8 redemption ticket games, and a dedicated host. They also gave my son some bonus tickets, had some competitions and gave party bags to all the kids (although, I still organised my own). Dan was our host and they loved him. He followed the kids around and turned on the games and occasionally grabbed a controller and played against them. He has this funny thing where he switches into a hilarious, high-​pitched voice which the kids absolutely adored.
There is a corner with a party table and a few decorations. You just bring all your own food, drinks and cake. I really didn’t need to bring half of what I did as the kids were off playing all the time. We stopped with five minutes to go, sang happy birthday, gave all the kids and parents a piece of cake and were on our way.
He is nearly seven and still talks about that party as one of his favourites (despite all my effort on the themed home parties for ‘3’ and ‘4’.
I now take him once a fortnight, cash in ten bucks and run riot on the machines for 45 minutes or so. He cashes in his tickets for a toy, I drink my coffee while he plays and then we both go home happy.
Our favourite machines are the Deal or No Deal (1 game =$ 2) and the Treasure spin wheel (3 spins for $ 1).
The staff are brilliant and very entertaining and are big kids themselves.
