Homewares Direct

Unreliable.
Last month we purchased a knife set to find out once we got home to unpack it we were 1 knife short. The store would not post the missing item or give a phone credit, ok. So we tried to return on a week day, the website said they were open, they were not due to stocktake which was on a sign at the shop but not on the website. Groan.

Homewares Direct is a lovely shop on Unley Road. When you walk through the doors, you immediately come across a store that is packed full of wonderful kitchen knick-​knacks and other homewares. There are wooden chopping boards, knives, apple cutters, magnetic boards and even a small device that can remove the green part of strawberries (now that is what I call a useful invention).
Whilst here, I bought a raclette, which consists of a small grill and heating plates (ideal for cooking small baked potatoes). The price offered was excellent, mainly due to the summer sales, and the staff were very friendly with serving me and packaging the item.
Some of the items were a tad expensive for their function, however that is somewhat expected from a homewares shop. With that said though, I could spend quite some time looking at all the homeware gadgets and items on special were very reasonably priced.

One day when I have heaps of money I will by this shop, or at least everything in the store. So many great products and clever little gadgets to make your entertaining and cooking needs so much more palatable. I haven’t had the chance to buy much. This is almost entirely due to the fact that when you enter you really need to concentrate on a few items otherwise $ 1000 later and little Timmy isn’t eating that night. You’ll have the means to cook them but not the food.
I’m keen to buy a white handled set of knives (the European brand escapes me) but at $ 800 for the set they have a while to wait to be in my kitchen. But there really is everything here and it’s a big store so it’s a lot of stuff. From traditional copper cookware, the type the French love to quirky shapes for the cookies that you’ll make once you have food again.
Pricey but with everything you’ll need I can support your culinary adventures in Homewares Direct.

Kitchen and homeware type shops are a great place to go to have a browse and on the odd occasion make a purchase, as there’s always some new gadget to make life easier. This place tends to have more than ususal discounts happening, probably because they are some well stocked and need to make room for the new.
I always find myself buying cookie cutters and the most unusual cookies I made were dogs biscuits, I made three different flavours with three varying shapes, a bone of course, a scotty dog and a labrador. Two out of three cookie cutters were purchased at Homewares Direct, they were the metal ones by the way.
They stock some big brand names also like Cuisineart, Kitchenaid, Scanpan, Raco, Jamie Oliver, Baccarat and a few others. Everything the gourmet, chef or cook will ever need in the kitchen is in the shop, all I need in my kitchen is the chef perhaps Manuel — wink, wink, nudge, nudge!
When there I always make sure to have a rummage through the sale items, who doesn’t!

I love browsing shops for new kitchen and household items. Homewares Direct on Unley Road is definitely one of my favourites. They have a huge choice of everything: pots and pans, knife sets, cutlery, dinner sets, baking needs and more. I always find that their prices are quite good in comparison to competitors. I recently purchased a cheese board from Salt and Pepper for $ 25 that I found at other stores for at least $ 4 more.
They usually also have a good selection of items on sale, not so much outside but at the very back of the shop. Ramekins, glasses and plates are often discounted by 50% and there’s always something your kitchen is still missing. There is a very small section with decorations and accessories such as wallets, clocks, vases and bags, which I always like browsing through because some items are very unique in their design.
Whether it is for myself or if I’m after a present, Homewares Direct is on the top of my list. Plus, they’re in a handy location on Unley Street with parking on-​site.

It offers a great range of good quality, well-​priced kitchen items including, top notch saucepans, electrical goods and other great gadgets. There are also oodles of gift ideas here.
The best thing about Homewares Direct is the fantastic service. Unfortunately many customers are making use of this service by asking for advice on products and then purchasing them online. I fear for the future of small, locally owned business like this if people continue to do their research at boutique stores and then shop online to save a few dollars. I guess we’ll see if stores like this can survive competing with the department store 40−50% off sales as well as online stores with lower overheads.
There is plenty of parking on-​site. Keep an eye out for there occasional sale sign out the front. If you get in when the time is right, you’ll get an even better bargain.
