The Roaster And Barista

The coffee at The Roaster and Barista is by far the best in the Riverton/​Parkwood/​Willetton area. In fact the next best coffee closest to me would be Vic Park. The only thing stopping me giving this little coffee shop 5 stars is the location. Unfairly, I just don’t feel like sitting in the middle of a shopping centre for a coffee. I frequently stop in for takeaways though!
On top of the excellent coffee, they have a variety of sweet baked goods and some sandwiches and things. I’ve never had any savouries, but the cakes and things are superb. Fresh, flavoursome and not just ‘sweet’. I have a distinct soft spot for their cannoli. They used to have homemade rocky road, but this section has been replaced by ice cream!
With the only rivals being shopping centre chains like Jamaica Blue, it’s no surprise this place can be pretty popular. But it’s deservedly so. If this was not inside a suburban shopping centre, it’d still hold it’s own on a main coffee strip.
The staff are lovely and treat their younger staff really well. I’ve seen both of the main staff pass on the skills of the less familiar coffee styles to the juniors in a very busy period with patience, humour and genuine care. Wonderful to see.

The iced coffee are brewed every morning and there are no fillers, ie ice cream and cream. The coffee is strong and give you a caffeine hit!
Thy have stopped making their own Rocky road and Turkish delight. When I asked the barista why, she said at christmas it was far too hard to wrap the treats nicely and take orders as well. She said maybe in the future they will bring it back.
