It is a scientific FACT that you can’t have a bad time in a Tiki bar. It’s true. How can you resist the music, the quirky interior and the juicy, delicious drinks? So naturally as soon as I found out that Perth has a Tiki Bar I immediately demanded to be taken there. Hula Bula Bar is… good. It’s not the best but it’s not the worst either. I was keen to purchase a drink where the glass is included(those are the best kind of drinks) but unfortunately on this particular night they had run out of the particular glass that goes with that deal. Dang. I went with the Kato Monkey, which was a yummy mix of gin, mango, lychee and pineapple. Naturally I ordered this because it appeared to come in a glass shaped as a monkey and if I wasn’t able to keep the glass I was at least going to get a photo of me with a ridiculous glass. It’s what instagram would have wanted. Turns out, there are no monkey glasses either. There were no funny glasses at all at Hula Bula! Silly glasses are the very essence of a tiki bar. Yes, the drinks were delicious and the atmosphere was fun, but Hula Bula definitely needs to work on their glassware.

Hula Bula Bar took the Tiki theme and ran with it. The bar looks amazing. The drinks list is also in keeping with the Hawaiian theme with an impressive selection of beautifully presented cocktails. This is a fun place with a great atmosphere for a drink. Be warned though, it gets crowded quickly on weekends, and you really feel it because it is small and enclosed.

I’d forgotten how much I love this place after abandoning city living many years ago! Awesome cocktails and the bar staff don’t take twenty mins to make them! More rum please!

No stars! Just refused a group of 5. Reason one girl«being intoxicated» absolutely false. All parties have had a few but in full control. Door staff unreasonable and mouthy. Bad form!

This place was very different but super fun! The tiki theme was throughout the whole bar! Even the drinks came with little umbrellas or cute rubber jungle animals. The bartenders were very helpful in our drink selections and we noticed there is happy hour on Fridays.

Archi fan!

We think the Hula Bula Bar is fantastic! A small bar with a nice vibe tucked away just off Hay Street. We adored the theme, the music and the décor very much. It’s a really comfortable, interesting and inviting place. The staff are chatty and friendly. There was a DJ on and a group of friends were playing dominos, and on a Wednesday night it had a good flow of customers. The cocktail menu has plenty to choose from. We tried four different cocktails and two came in particularly interesting and quirky glasses with lots of decoration. The drinks match the décor of the bar and were a delight. If you’re looking for somewhere unique to visit in Perth I recommend starting here and then heading off to Devilles Pad. :) Really pleased we have discovered the Hula Bula Bar!

This place is great! The attention to detail at Hula Bula is sensational, from the décor to the staff uniforms and then of course the cocktails! Anywhere I go now that doesn’t put a dinosaur in my drink just won’t measure up! The staff seemed to be having just as much fun as we were, which really contributed to the happy vibe. The music was great too! I’m not from Perth and was pleasantly surprised to find such a groovy spot in my travels.

Hula Bula will always have a place in my heart… I have many fond memories from being at Hula over the years. Great music, delicious tropical cocktails… what more could you want? Where tiki bars are in abundance over in the states, i have to say Hula Bula is one of the best tiki bars i have been to. The décor, from it’s SHAGtastic prints and vintage posters to its hand carved tiki bar, it is nothing short of eye catching to the plainest of Jane to the hippest of hip, and If you’re lucky, you might get to catch my dear friend Razor Jack spinning some great ska and calypso tunes. The cocktails themselves have always been award winning. Even after years of the coming and goings of staff, they have always maintained the most delicious cocktails i have ever tasted. Although pricey, they do use a very good selection of high quality rums and other concoctions, and they are well large enough for you to sit and sip on for a while. I think my all time fave is their Mai Tai… i’ve been to Hawaii, and i have to say, I couldn’t find a decently made Mai Tai on the whole island of Oahu. Also the Bikini Bottom is worth a mention, being my second fave cocktails at hula… plus they do a virgin version without the rum, for you drivers still wanting to experience a proper Tiki cocktail. Its quite a small place, so huge groups not ideal, but if you get in early enough you might be lucky enough to score a table. See you again soon Hula.

What’s not to love? Rum– The drink of the Gods is plastered on the back of their tiki themed drink coasters(I’m on a coaster collecting spree around Perth town) The entire place is the size of my lounge room, but boy howdy do they pack in some tiki hut décor. Absolutely adore this place. Staff super friendly, one even said my Tina from Bob’s burgers tattoo, was the best he’d ever seen. I must be a cool kid too. The alternative tattooed team were shaking and mixing the craziest looking drinks I’ve seen for a while. The tiki and palm tree swizzle sticks made them awesome, the plastic jungle animals and shrunken head monsters that garnish them made the so cute. Someone please do this in Sydney?! Noise level can be loud, but there was a hen’s night going on in one of the booths, and B2B was pretty plastered and high pitched by that point. Book book book. There were two of us but we had to stand. All good but it’s kind of awkward because you’re kind of in the way of everyone. Great for pre something else drinks. Peruse the glass cabinets for which Rum you’d like, there is even one that costs $ 300 a shot. Yikes. If you like Don the beach comber’s Zombie cocktail, you’re in luck my frand. If you like $ 6 sailor jerry«as you like it» special on Saturday night between 6−7pm. Get in. So sweeeeet.

It was the sexy cocktail pictures on the Hula Bula Bar website that seduced us into meandering over… Nothing like a picture of a pink plastic skeleton lounging in a cocktail bath to get a powerful thirst worked up! It turned out to be the fog cutter, one of the signature cocktails for two($ 36), and el queso grande and I were definitely up for the challenge of tackling this potent concoction. By the time the we cut all the fog, we’d made friends with the neighboring table, had the skeleton drink topper dancing on the table, and we’d taken up pirating on the high seas… it’s that kind of quality establishment! Parting Thought: keep an eye out for drink specials! And dress sharp on Saturday night or you may find yourself rumless!!!

The HulaBula Bar is a fantastic place with loud music and a great atmosphere. The creativity knows no bounds as the walls, the staff and even the drinks are decorated with the tikitiki theme. Great for a group of good friends yet on the smaller size But that doesn’t mean it’s not a great place to meet people, there’s always friendly staff and faces when ever I go. The bar enjoys the company of a more older group 30+ but the fun vibes and music does attract a younger and mixed crowd as the night progresses. There is limited space but from what I’ve experienced never is too crowded or full. The bar it’s self has a menu packed full with a large range of excellent drinks, each coming usually with its own fun ornament or finger puppet character. Each drink is a pleasure to watch as the bar tender tenders to your entertainment needs as they toss and turn the cups and shake it to the funky music while they prepare each one. The HulaBula Bar is a multi-use bar and can be a place to sit and chat in its separated seating areas, as well as a pit stop during a bar hopping crazy night. Great fun, super creative, great drinks, great price, great people. Love going to this bar.

I love Hula — amazing drink specials and they do not skimp on alcohol content. The staff are chilled and look like pirates! Your cocktails get dressed up with lots of fun plastic novelty objects and the interior and atmosphere is super fun. The only set-back to Hula Bula is really that it is a small bar and it can be a bit tricky to find seating — especially if big groups are around you do end up sharing tables in order to get a seat.

I use to work in East Perth so on a Friday my friends and I would meet up at Hula Bula Bar for Friday after work drinks. The place is decorated amazingly and the drinks are so good, with animal and zombie decorations and crazy straws. Love the happy hour $ 10.00 mai tai specials on a Friday night which usually ends up turning a couple of quiet drinks into a night out all over Perth till 4am! The place is pretty small though so I would suggest booking a table if you have a larger group attending.

I like how this is a themed bar as Perth doesn’t have many of them. it’s really small inside and it always gets packed. It’s still a lot of fun tho. The cocktails are weird and different… in a good way. It’s a great place to start before heading out into the city.

This bar is so much fun. Great music, amazing bar tenders, such a cool fit out. If you are planning on visiting for after work drinks I would recommend booking a table as it does get very packed and is a small venue. The happy hour $ 10 specials are a perfect way to start a long night

This place is a hoot! Sure it’s lost a bit of it’s shine in recent years as the novelty factor has started to ware, but I personally think it’s still worthy of it’s 5 star rating — I love themed bars, especially when taken to full measure. It’s like going to Disneyland. Hula Bula bar is itty-bitty in space but huge on character. It’s walls are overflowing with Polynesian-tiki-kitsch and there is island music to match. Get stuck into one of their deeeelicious, oversized, tropical cocktails, each served in their own style of cup. The price might make you raise your eyebrows, but they’re actually big enough for two. I’d say this is a fun place to stop for a drink en route to larger venues, with a group of friends or colleagues. It’s not really somewhere you go to meet people, as the crowd is diminutive and mainly of close groups.

The tiki inspired bar pours delicious cocktails in a brilliantly detailed fit out in the city’s CBD. The highly competent staff mix up an extensive range of delicious drinks that take you to a tropical abyss. The fit out of this bar is absolutely second to none. Immense time and effort have gone into the unique fit out and you can feel the owners passion for all things tiki as it permeates through every square inch of the venue through the art, bamboo, even down to the custom designed uniforms worn by the staff. After a couple of lazy drinks here it is easy to get swept up in the atmosphere and truly believe you are someplace faraway. The music is usually hits from the 1960s that are as fun as the décor. When you are there make sure you try the shrunken head — it is a rum explosion of the Caribbean kind.
