Absolutely loved the beer here. It was really crowded when I went but it was also during the holidays. I couldn’t pick between which beer I wanted because there were so many to choose from that I ended up getting the board instead! I have to say that all the beers were great but the one that stuck out to me the most was Porter! It was a great atmosphere and I really liked the seating upstairs. The menu looked great and everything sounded delicious but we had eaten before we got there so sadly we never got to try any of the delicious food they had to offer.

I can’t believe the serving size! I got the ribs, which came out on a giant sized platter with a heap of chips and a creamy coleslaw, enough for two ‘normal’ meals. The ribs were nice, but not amazing — the sauce tasted a bit like it had just been added before serving, rather than being cooked with the ribs. Would go again, but would probably opt for something else on the menu.

Quick lunch stop. We ordered chicken caesar & lamb salad and some beer. Caesar tasted great(according to husband) and it had a generous portion of chicken. Lamb salad was tasty however it was supposed to have goats cheese. Unfortunately, goats cheese is non-existent. For $ 23 — I think it’s a bit of a rip. Ps. Make sure you give James Squire Swindler summer ale a go. Perfect for a hot day!

Really this should be 3.5 stars but in my experience they just don’t quite make the fourth; but maybe that’s a good thing? I like that they are know what they want to be and do it well! What it is, is a great social pub, meet friends or family, catchup with coworkers at the end of the day etc. of course they concentrate on the James Squires beers but have some of the other Lion Co. Brews if you cannot find something you like — never had that issue myself with JS. The menu does not take risks sticking with tried and true meals; steaks, fish & chips, salad, or paella etc do not expect much originality but the quality should be good. Causal experiment unlikely to offend anyone but it can get VERYLOUDINHERE at peak times

After searching for a spontaneous lunch spot, we finally settled on this quirky pub/restaurant that I’ve only been to for beverages. I ordered Rolled Pork belly W/Garlic Prawns and Kale, it was amazing, tender the perfect serving for a main course. The staff were with great smiles and extremely helpful, drink and food serving time would be perfect amount of time for the CBD workers lunch break. Definitely will be going back there to try the Roast Duck w/Broccolini my friend had it look delightful. Overall 10⁄10.

I really enjoyed my time here, food was delicious and very evenly priced, drinks were an okay price too, only problem was the desserts were a bit to pricey for the serving sizes you actually get, that’s really the only problem but other than that, will definatly go again

Been here heaps of times, this place is awesome to catch up with friends for a bevy or two or maybe three after work. It’s a social place and easy to chat but also to enjoy the music as well as there is a DJ there too. Awesome place :)

The go to place for lunch with big groups. I’ve tried so many at this place and so fair none of them failed me. I like it that they change menus every season so you don’t get bored with the usual«pub grub». this place is always busy on friday and saturday night. decent crowd and very attentive bartenders. you wouldn’t find yourself standing too long at the bar to order your drink unless you’re buying for the whole pub!

A restaurant that focuses on good beer? Seems to be a rarity these days, at least in my world. Having stumbled upon(no pun intended) The Generous Squire I seized the moment and chose the Hop Thief, American Pale Ale, which was described as a fruity, dry amber – the combination of «fruity» and«dry» had me intrigued. I had to try it. I prefer a hoppy beer and the beer was hoppy, which helped balance out the fruitiness of the flavors. All in all, a really enjoyable beer. For lunch, I ordered the braised smoked beef cheeks. The beef was good – it was cooked well and had that melt-in-your mouth, pull apart texture that’s always good. Where’s the catch? The accompaniments on the dish did not compliment the beef at all. The cabbage had some sort of odd herb and spice mixture that had more of an Asian chili taste, which clashed with the hearty comfort food taste of the beef. The garnish(some sort of fresh herb) also clashed. Put it this way– a bite full of everything on the plate left a series of odd, incongruous flavors that just did not work. But taking a bite of each element individually? Fine. The atmosphere was upbeat and lively and the restaurant was clean. The service was on the better side as well.

Stopped in for drinks and dinner with work mates on Valentine’s Day! It was busy and full of regular patrons, no canoodling couples anywhere thank God! There are plenty of seating areas but we chose to sit upstairs. We all had the barramundi, chips and salad. Large portions, which left us feeling rather full. Kudos to the barman, excellent service combined with a pleasant disposition. The drinks were cold and reasonably priced and we were wished a pleasant evening on our departure, which I thought was lovely and impressed me no end.

4 stars for the outdoor sitting area — facing shafto lane, 3 for inside as it’s a bit dingy. Cool feature inside is the history wall about James Squire, sounds like quite the interesting dude. Great place for a Friday after work drink as the place is buzzing with people. Not perfect for a quiet drink and bite to eat in the bar/out door area. We had the chicken and the steak sandwich. Both were tasty and good size for the price. Nothing gourmet however. Stick to going there for a drink.

Friends were in town from Malaysia and I was catching up with them for dinner. They wanted to try some Australian lamb shanks and I found Generous Squire had the dish on the menu along with lots of other great choices. Plus the pub is located in the middle of the CBD. So on a Wednesday night we walked in, it was quite loud like most pubs but plenty of tables as well as an upstairs area. Most of the crowd were office workers that eventually disappeared after 7pm. Inside it is tastefully decorated with wood and high ceilings, beer vats(I think that is what they are) sit in a glass encased room towards the entrance. All of the local James Squire beer are on tap, nice and cold. There is no table service, find a table and order food from the counter. Eftpos accepted. Not feeling entirely hungry between the four of us we shared two main dishes the Paella($ 30.00) and slowly roasted lamb Shanks($ 26.00). The lamb shanks were served with a creamy sweet potato mash. Spare cutlery can be found at the counter if you decide to share between a few people. Loved that there are 3 salad items on the menu and the burgers and steak sandwich include chips in the price! Overall great place to take international guests for an Australian pub/micro brewery experience.

Another good place for after work drinks. Easy location to find being right at the top of Shafto Lane. The décor is your average Perth bar décor, but the place has plenty of room with two levels and multiple bars. There’s no seating at the bar, but the service is efficient in pouring all the flavors of James Squires that you want. The shared starter platter is a good choice for a small crowd. Good selection of finger foods to much on as you down the beer. Interestingly, they seem to have a loyalty card you can sign up for. I guess the more you drink, the more drinks you get. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a bar with a loyalty program. Is that even legal? Perth would be last place I would expect to see something like that… Stay sexy my friends!
