Bottega Del Vino

I live across the street from this place and I find myself going here at least once a week.
It’s really great for meats and cheeses and bread on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Haven’t had a chance to try the chocolate or ice cream yet, but it’s definitely on my list!
I do think it can be a bit overpriced…

What do you get when you take a shop and fill it up with delectable imported European sweets, handcrafted beers, boutique wine, freshly made salads and baguettes, sourdough loaves, stinky cheese, charcuterie and a coffee machine?
A win! That’s what you get.
When Bottega opened a few years ago in Potts Point — a suburb already well serviced by a number of gourmet delis and quick shopping spots, people wondered if it could really be sustainable. Well, many years later, it’s still packing the people in and catering to the lunch time office workers, as well as the evening crowd looking to take home some bits and pieces for dinner with a nice bottle of something to drink.
I’m especially enamoured with the little boxes of French sweets (violet and lavender flavoured things rock my world) and think it’s a super spot to buy a gift for your food obsessed friend.

It was a cold day and my fiancé and I ducked into the deli just to get out of the weather. Then I saw the chocolates, cheeses, wines, sweet and savory pastries and we decided to get a cup of coffee and browse. They have a nice variety of selected deli items that make you want to have a dinner party. The quality of their gourmet food items is impressive. It’s a fairly small deli, but they have a great selection. From their specialty wines and craft beers to the handmade chocolates and pastries. The sausage roll was especially good (I don’t know if it was the cold weather, but the pastry was fresh and tasty. Sitting outside by the heater eating a sausage roll and drinking a cup of coffee watching the people walk by was an absolutely unexpected joy). This is probably the best specially food store on Macleay Street.

I love this place! It may be small, but it’s definitely quality not quantity with this Macleay Street deli/​bottle shop. Although that’s not to say that there’s not a decent selection here… there’s a fantastic array of all sorts of goodies! I tend to go if I’m looking for a nice bottle of wine, but often get drawn to the cheese and dips and they also have a good selection of micro-​brewery beers which often distract me from my vino hunt. Oh and they have a tempting display of hand made chocolates if you’re that way inclined.
Macleay Street has a number of delis, but I’d really recommend this one as the one to choose!

My Friend Gonzie lives a few doors from Bottega Del Vino in Potts Point and at times he can be a bit of a hermit with expensive taste, so Bottega Del Vino is perfect for him.
Whenever I come over and say lets go out for dinner, he says lets go to the deli and get something and to be fair they have everything you could want.
I often get a serve of their Lasagne and heat it up and a salad. These prepared meals are reasonably priced for what their quality.
What really makes this shop worthwhile is the gourmet foods and wine. The selection is pricy but impressive. We had a $ 40 bottle of red wine from there one evening and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. Although their products are expensive, the quality is the highest and you know you will enjoy what you have.
Bottega Del Vino is like something which has escaped from Europe and is a cut above the average deli.

Don’t be fooled by the quaint size of this cellar/​gourmet goodies trove. This popular Potts Point space is chockers with imported and local vinos… including the most impressive array of half bottles I’ve ever seen. Perfect for those flying solo who don’t want to commit to a full bottle, and for those who simply have no self control and will, despite the best of intentions, inevitably consume the entire full bottle in one go simply because it’s there. Guilty as charged. Strategically placed written notes and recommendations facilitate your poison selection. But a local winner is the Bottega Del Vino’s own 2006 Basket Press Shiraz. I didn’t think it was possible to get Aussie red this good for $ 20. A robust range of cheeses, charcuterie meats, dips and general goodies to complement your vino. And hearty ‘ready to go’ meals for lazy nights when you just couldn’t be arsed to cook. Handmade chocolates and a mouth watering cakes/​desserts display is just a little too much like torture. And the point of sale Belgian Dolfin chocolate selection should be illegal. Make sure you try some, nevertheless.

Hmmm, what is it? I would call it a… Café, with a bottle shop attached, with an choclateur attached, with some really good ice cream off to one side.
It feels like a one stop shop fo r a really good night, doesn’t it?
Theres heap s of wines to choose from, and you can visit the discount bin if youre looking for a bargain, or grab a bite to eat at the café — there are some great healthy options, looking pretty kosher, I think there’ll even be some vegan alternatives and such.
It also feels like a supermarket of up market goods, they’re heap to peruse in the aisles, a surprising amount considering how small the store is.
Theres a kitchen too, that’ll whip you up something, but if I were you, I wouldn’t leave without one of the chocolates.
Just a great mixture of stuff! Deinately worth a look!
