Rang to book 21st July 2015. Shop closed a month ago to reopen in a new shop somewhere in September. Here’s hoping it will be and is still great.

Best pizza of Melbourne by far! I go there whenever I can! :-) But they have just closed though — they will open again at the end of the winter in a different location!

Move over 400 Gradi, DOC blah blah blah this place is by far the best pizza experience in Melbourne sssssssssssssh! Without sounding like a complete knob, after having tried all the ‘hyped up’ pizza joints I keep coming back here for more. Tonight there was 4 of us having 3 pizzas. They came out steaming hot and freshly hand made within 5 minutes. No mean feat for the kitchen team who must have been hot under the collar on warm packed Sunday evening. The service is always consistently to a high standard. The cost of a meal is the same as any other top notch pizza place with some Specials on a wed and Sunday. Come here quickly before everyone else finds out!

This place is fantastic and very underrated. People go on about Gradi being the holy grail of Melbourne pizza but I personally think this place is much more authentically Italian. I highly recommend the pizzas here. They’re simple but so full of flavour.

I’ll be sad to see the $ 20 pizza and wine disappear after this Tuesday because it’s an absolute bargain considering how delicious the pizza is. We normally love thin crispy bases but somehow this chewy tasty base has won me over. We ordered 2 pizzas and one of them was clearly better. The salami, ham, artichoke pizza was a definite winner(I think was called the capriosa maybe?) was delish.. The Gorgonzola, meatball and chilli was ok as well but the first one was so much tastier. We also had a $ 15 buffalo mozzarella and tomato, rocket salad which was perfect to break up the pizza. Would definitely recommend the pizza and will be back!

I must tell you, I was not expecting the explosion of flavor tied with superior service! The pizza had such great flavor and the pasta, in my case, the ravioli stuffed with succulent salmon and ricotta was orgasmic. This was only during the first visit! Tonight, we enjoyed the same delicious pizza and I went wild with the Osso buco with the most velvety potato mashed I have ever had — an incredible accompaniment to such an amazing dish matched with a delicious sauce and cold weather! Perfect match! We finished our dinner with some panna cotta and tiramisu — creamy and so delicious. This restaurant definitely gives 400 Gradi a run for its money — at least, they answer their phones for reservations :)

I really enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. I came here on a Sunday evening for a date night dinner. Even though it was hard to see if the place was open from the front we persisted, and boy we we

I’ve been back here twice since my introductory elite event in May, and wow… La Svolta was awarded the prize for best pie in town at the Melbourne pizza festival and it’s no wonder. They’ve knocked it out of the ballpark on each occasion with their fantastic, authentic pizzas and convivial service. We never used to go out for pizza before La Svolta because we were pretty happy with our own homemade version over the pies on offer around town. That’s changed though. This place is delizioso!

First, I’m going to cover the important bit. The wine. BESTLIST. Loved it. I will be back based on the list alone. Soft, delicious, some full bodied you name it, that list had it all. The pizza was just as good as the wine, being light and crispy with the oh so right toppings, which left you satisfied and not wanting to roll out the door. The secret there is the base. Oh good lordy me, what a treat. Top it off with some people absolutely passionate about what they do made it an absolute pleasure to be here. Next time I’m around Prahran and need a meal that won’t leave me wanting to curl up from too much excess, this is the place you will find me.

Just unbelievable pizza, I have had nothing like this in Melbourne! The bases are crisp, the toppings so fresh, and just perfect amounts. SO get your friends here and enjoy a pizza(or 10!) and wine. The staff are the best and make you feel at home. Fantastico!

Will start this review by saying I was lucky enough to come here as part of a Unilocal Elite event in preparation for pizza week. The venue itself is located down a small alleyway in Prahran and easily missed if you just stick to the street. When you first walk in the venue is warm and and welcoming. We started off the night with a nice glass of red wine, which was very reasonably priced. Once fellow Unilocalers arrived we sat down at the table ready for some pizza. First up was a margharita and marinara. The style of pizza they use is napoletana. They were absolutely delicious and it was hard to stop at just one piece of each. We had Matteo on hand who is over from Italy to help with Pizza week, who explained to us the origins of pizza and what makes a traditional pizza. He was lovely and very informative. A few more pizzas followed, which i didn’t have as they had meat on them and i’m a vegetarian. But from the reaction of the group — they were amazing. The last pizza of the night was a nutella pizza which was absolutely to die for. It was rich, moorish and just so tasty. The staff at this venue were friendly, helpful and i get the feeling they would do anything to help you. It had such a warm and welcoming vibe and i’ll be back here for sure!

Veramente spettacolare! Transparency note: This review is written after an amazing Unilocal event @ the venue! Admittedly I am a bit of a glutton, so it surprises me greatly whenever I go to a place within a kilometre of my apartment that I haven’t been to(or even seen before). Whenever I do find one of these places I find it an amazing treat anyway but when that place is as unbelievably unforgettable as La Svolta I get truly giddy! We went here as a special treat from the magnificent organiser of the Melbourne Pizza Festival and along with dinner were treated to a guide of the wonderful world of traditional pizza making. Rule no 1: Matteo’s preferred size is 11 — 13 inches… Size really does matter in Italy! Rule no 2: Thou who darest to put more than three ingredients on a pizza is a fool! Rule no 3: Italian food is so amazing you can eat forever and never feel full! Ambitiously we set out to test all of these rules, aided by some of the most friendly wait staff and amazing chefs that I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting in Melbourne! 7 different types of pizza were tried, each as magnificent as the last and each made even more special by the chianti accompanying. From simple to complex and everything in between these people know how to make one of the most splendid food types in the world even more devine! Usually in my reviews I like to provide a suggestion as to what to eat but I can’t think of any one pizza that I liked more than any other. I truly believe I’ve found a menu that I would be happy to suggest absolutely anything from! It still surprises me that this place is so close to home and yet so unknown to me so if you ever find yourself around the area you absolutely MUST go in and try this place! Oh and if you are lucky enough to be served by Phillipo, give him a kiss on the cheek for me! Magnificent!

Walked in on a rainy night, late in the dinner service, hoping we might still score a dessert or easy-to-prep appetizer. What we got was a warm, friendly welcome, an appetizer(sweet-salty Bruschetta with roasted peppers and white anchovy) and piping hot Ala Davide pizza(strewn with some of the most delicate, freshest-tasting prosciutto I’ve had) within minutes. The first pie was so good we ordered a second — this one a Capricciosa, and equally as crispy, salty, divine as the first. Will definitely be back for more.
