Love this little café. First place I’ve found in Melbourne that does Campos coffee! Came in here the other day after lunch for a caffeine hit. Nice little place. Reminds me of this quaint cafés that you would expect to find in the CBD. No bigger than your standard living room, this little café packs in a whole punch of character into a little café. The staff are friendly and easy to talk to with great barista skills. My piccolo(yup) made from the Campos Superior blend was the strong pick-me-up that I needed to get me through the rest of my SWOTVAC day at uni.

Let’s face it: eating breakfast alone can either be unbeatably relaxing or harrowingly, depressingly lonely. But you never feel alone at Piccolo, the cosy corner café that could. Okay, so I’ll admit I frequent the place primarily to innocently perve on the gorgeous chef, who doubles as a shy but accommodating waitress. The barista, who froths the milk to creamy Campos perfection, also doubles as a waitress — so accommodating she is that she fetched me my morning paper to read over my solitary breakfast. Then of course there’s the owner, a very tall man with a killer taste in perfect 80s soft rock. Everyone here is so laid back, it’s hard not to feel like you’re visiting an old friend… and then giving them money. The food is equally casual, all prepared behind the counter by the one person. It would be unfair to expect gob-smackingly good food, so instead I quite gladly settle for fresh and simple flavours. Again there’s that feeling that a good friend has served up a nice meal for you.

When you try and have breakfast at 3 in the afternoon you can run into a little bit of trouble. Why! I want my breakfast dam it. Thankfully Piccolo came to the rescue after being knocked back from a number of closed kitchens in the area. After looking through the perfectly small selection on the menu and finding out what the waitress recommended, we both made my choice and I was very satisfied. Although breakfast was very good with perfectly cooked bacon and a hash brown that do not compare to most you will find, the heroes were both the piccolo late and the Orange and Grapefruit juice. Highly recommended.

Piccolo is an underrated and little known café and bar on High St in Prahran. I had my first experience there having a late night coffee to help me stay up late for a film project. I was instantly impressed by the cool décor and jazz feel where the waitress was very kind and down-to-earth. It is actually quite a chic looking bar where I was compelled to go back for breakfast that week due to the coffee being really good. It had a vibe of being an exclusive bar but was actually very inclusive and chilled. I loved that they were playing jazzy tunes where my late night coffee was exactly what I needed!

Piccolo is kind of a sanctuary for the under caffeinated staff and students of the neighbouring Swinburne design uni. Early mornings expect to see a line of suits and artfully dishevelled students waiting patiently for their take away coffee. Music posters adorn the walls and a record player rotating an epic selection of vinyl completes the bohemian chic vibe. The coffee however is still the main attraction at Piccolo. The staff have a commitment to sourcing and creating great quality coffee. Lunch hungers can be satisfied with a selection of focaccia’s for around $ 9 or share an antipasto, dip platter with friends. Piccolo offers a relaxed vibe and some seriously good coffee without the Prahran«attitude», enjoy.
