It’s was a mission across town for breaky here today! Green breaky bowl was super yummy! But. Food came before coffee. And order-at-the-counter and self service cutlery wasn’t great for my boobfeeding friend with new spawn. Still a nice place and ‘on trend’ good décor with fresh healthy foods.

This place was pumping on a Sunday mid-morning. Had to wait 10 mins for a table but worth the wait. Great coffee, delicious breakfast, with a buzzing casual vibe. Paleo options on the menu. You have to order me at the counter, get your own cutlery, but that’s ok. Would go again in a heartbeat

This place never disappoints!!! The phenomenal menu full of fresh and healthy ingredients that make up huge servings for breakfast, paired with superb coffee makes this the perfect place to go particularly if you are hungover… the décor is quirky and unique as it retains its original history as a hardware store and the staff are most friendly.

Discovered this hidden gem in Scarborough on Saturday morning for breakfast. It was busy when we arrived, a bustling atmosphere of chatter and really funky décor. We had to wait a few minutes for a table and then were seated inside. We studied the menu for some time and finally decided what we would have, and then we waited for service… And we waited… And we waited. Eventually the lady at the table next to us told us we had to go up to the front counter to order our meals! It would have been nice if the hostess told us that when we sat down. Never mind! We went up and ordered, I had the massive breakfast and a beetroot juice. It was awesome! Typical Saturday morning breakfast to get the heart started. Slightly pricey, but we didn’t mind.

On the day that I came to the Hardware Store the service could not be faulted and the staff were friendly and polite. The venue fit out is also super cool and stylish. Unfortunately the food and the prices were disappointing. I ordered the pancakes(winter berries, honey comb butter and dulce de leche — $ 21) — sounds amazing right? Unfortunately not on frozen pancakes that were tougher than steak. I am not exaggerating. I had to cut them about 4 – 5 times to get a piece off. My friend got the Smoked chorizo breaky board(eggs poached in tomato, red pepper, butter beans, and chorizo broth — $ 22) — The dish was basically eggs in a tomato broth with some average chorizo added. My dog enjoyed the Chorizo the most. The green smoothie was also watery and extremely average, so at a price of $ 10 a piece is ludicrous. I don’t think I am a picky eater or have ridiculously high exceptions; however if you are going to charge top prices for breakfast in Perth, it better be amazing — And I am talking Voyage, Hylin, Bib & Tucker amazing.

I really like it here, groovy vibes, great and creative food. I had the chorizo and Mexican bowl thing it was delicious! And a great twist on the traditional brunch!

Pretty hard to fault this place. Enormous servings — there was just no way I was going to make it through my huge serve of mushroom bruschetta. So flavoursome and tasty. Fiancée is a hollandaise nazi and will pretty much only eat breakfast at places which have it on the menu. Can make it a challenge, but this place has passed the hollandaise test with flying colours! Importantly, coffee was quick to arrive as was food. Very relaxed for a Saturday morning at 8am, lots of couples who had been to the beach, or had their dogs in tow(dining outside in front) and just general newspaper reading over a juice. I liked it, the price was reasonable and i would certainly return when in the area again.

The Hardware Store Café and Eatery has been on my list of places to visit for some time, and I recently heard good things from some friends so decided to head there for the first breakfast of the recent WA long weekend. The café is open from 6:30am daily, and we arrived just after 7:30am. Seeing the huge queue that extended outside the small patisserie next door we expected the café to be full, but it wasn’t. There was a very relaxed feeling inside, and it seemed to be full of locals rather than hordes of nomadic foodies. I ordered my usual long mac to start, and the first thing I tasted was BURNT. Ugh. Not what I need early on a Saturday morning. The food menu has a good variety and a few interesting choices. The menus were located inside the tables(under the glass) which was a neat idea, no hunting around for menus here. I chose the«Toolbox»($ 24) with scrambled eggs, bacon, beef sausage, cherry tomatoes, hash browns, mushrooms and toast. It’s been a while since I’ve ordered a full breakfast like this, and unfortunately this one was a disappointment. The scrambled eggs had a good texture, but were completely unseasoned. The bread was like a rock, and came with no butter(I had to steal some from Renay’s pancakes) — it was almost impossible to cut. The sausages were quite nice, there was a decent serving of bacon, hash browns were okay but out of a bag… meh. Not worth $ 24. Renay chose the«winter berry» pancakes with honeycomb butter and dulce de leche caramel($ 21) which looked fantastic, but was another disappointment. The pancakes were quite chewy and not very sweet, which wouldn’t have been a problem if the caramel was sweet, but it didn’t taste of much at all. Maybe we caught the Hardware Store on a bad day, but we were both disappointed. The coffee was terrible, the food ordinary and it was one of the most expensive breakfasts we’ve had in recent times. It’s certainly a relaxed place to eat, but I think this is one for the locals who can see past the faults.

Great food, great menu but unfortunately let down by some of the odd disinterested service I’ve had in Perth. Would definitely have been a 4 star review if our food hadn’t gone cold waiting to be brought out to us, and it wasn’t even busy with only about 30 people seated.

Went for a Saturday brunch with the family. I had a Fantastic veggie burger! Normally I find the veggie burgers boring/dry as it tries to look like a meat burger… This one was fantastic juicy and tasty! Went well with one of their fresh & healthy juices. Not alot for the kids on the menu after brekkie hours — and thereby only a 4 star! Again they ended up with a chips plate — on the very positive side it was great chips :-) Love the décor & atmosphere! Staff was friendly & effective reducing the waiting time. Will come back to taste the coffee!

Good food, lovely atmosphere, reasonably priced, but get in early if you don’t want to queue! They don’t take bookings — also suggest checking out the cabinet for well-priced options of bagels/wraps and the like. That said I was not a fan of the vegetarian quiche, it was pretty much just egg and mushroom with very little flavour — may appeal to some people(i.e. the very health focussed) but was not for me.

overpriced, no table service, disinterested staff who don’t bother telling you there is no table service. I watched 3 coffees be delivered to tables near me which had been spilt into the saucer as they were delivered. the food was ok but nothing to rave about, $ 22 for mushrooms on plain toast is a bit rich but that’s perth I guess. fit out is great and nice homage to the old hardware store. coffee was pretty good. would not bother coming back.

Yummy food and great staff. My son and j got a sunny spot in the big chairs near the window. I went with the pulled pork sandwich and got some drinks and chips. Pulled pork was messy but tasty and I loved my dream juice. The waiter asked my son(2) did he like the chips? My son said NO(going through a no stage) and the waiter said maybe you should write a review. Little did he know…

I am in love with this place! I met some girlfriends on Saturday for breakfast and I was looking for a fresh, healthy and delicious meal and I found it! I didn’t try the coffee but my friend said it was delicious so I’ll take her word for it. I ordered a cold pressed pre made juice of watermelon, Apple and strawberry and it was fantastic and a good size. I had the avocado and tomato bruschetta on ciabatta with pesto and Parmesan and it was amazing. It didn’t take long for the food to come out either and it wasn’t too pricey. My friends had the Smoked Chorizo Brekky Board which I totally had food envy over! Also the herb eggs with hollandaise looked so good too. Service was nice and friendly and is such a great spot on Brighton Rd too — easy for me as I’d just come from Cottesloe. Five well deserved stars from me!

I came here with my sister in law after seeing plenty if Unilocalers check in and I’ve read some good reviews. Unilocalers you were not wrong. I wouldn’t have known it was here had I not heard about it on Unilocal but what a great little place. Décor suits the name. Menu had great options and it was hard to choose just one dish. I went with the pulled pork sandwich. Amazing! I complimented it with a cold pressed juice. So tasty. If you’re in the area, definitely hit up this cute café.

It’s tough to deliver such good results when the hype may be a little more than it should. And I wish it was table service because it is a little confusing whether it is or not when you walk in. I do love the look of the place though! Awesome concept! I may have come in with too high of expectations, but it is something that happened. I came here for breakfast and orders the toasted tortilla, my sister had the toolbox. The concept was good, but delivery lacked a little. My eggs came out a little cold and one of them practically rubber from being overcooked. My sister’s food was okay although for a big hearty breakfast it was a whole lot of bread and the sausage seemed like it was doused in salt! But the food was still good, average but good. Coffee was good and service was okay, although lacked a little bit of friendliness. Some items on the lunch menu looked amazing– particularly the crackling and crab! So I’m going to keep this place on my radar and come back to you with an updated review!

Another lovely café with an industrial feel to it. Unfortunately, I wasn’t overly pleased with the dry welcome– no smile, no eye contact, no recognition. The staff were too busy chatting amongst themselves(which made the 2 minutes of waiting seem like forever!) It’s ‘order and pay’ at the counter kind of service which is my pet hate. Long gone are simple genuine table service. Cost-cutting perhaps? And it wasn’t even busy when I arrived!(8.30am on a weekday!) Thankfully the food and drinks were quick to deliver and tasted rather delicious. I definitely wouldn’t travel the distance again to this place as there are many cafés of this kind in central Perth. Would recommend to try it at least once if you’re curious, like I was.

I’d be hanging out to try this new opening in Scarborough. I walked in and loved the fit-out and vibe — modern light fittings, combined with a rustic old hardware store feel. The menu all looked great — it took us ages to decide what to pick. Lots of delicious looking items, but reasonably healthy. For breakfast(till 11am): salmon gravlax, mixed mushroom bruschetta, granola buttermilk pancakes, The Tool Box(big brekfasty), egg white omelette(for the health freaks) and a muesli jar. For lunch: Beef burger, veggie burger, parmesan crusted chicken, summer salad, quinoa salad, hardware hotdog, pulled pork sandwich and a very tempting looking crab brioche. We went with the Bun Haters Veggie Burger(no buns here folks) and the corn fritters(can’t say no to a fritter!). Both were delicious. They have a great range of cold pressed juices available. The only reason I took a star off was because the service wasn’t friendly at all and our drinks came out after our meals had been served. It was busy on a Wednesday for lunch, so I’d say weekends would be pretty mental here. There is parking at the rear of the building.

Went to The Hardware Store for a lunch catch up on Tuesday got there at just on 12 noon and lucky we did as it quickly filled up afterwards. I always wonder when I see this ‘why aren’t these people at work?’. The set up is funky with hardware fittings hanging from the walls and around the café, I was a bit dubious about the half wheelbarrows and how well attached they were to the wooden board but we got through lunch without any incident. There are quite a number of seating options depending on what you feel like. You order at the counter and pay prior to your meal arriving, which I actually don’t mind and I think it works for this venue given it is such a long café. On Tuesday I selected the Beef Burger and Root Vegetable Chips/Slaw, as well as a Dream juice. The food came pretty quickly which was great and I found my meal at first to be a little difficult to tackle given the size of the burger! But I managed and pretty much all components on the plate were great together. I initially thought the burger pattie to be a little bland but once I started to eat everything together I changed my mind on that. I could have eaten an entire bowl of the root vegetable chips they were delicious. They have a good selection of meals, as well as a case of food at the counter to chose from, there are a number of juices and smoothies also on the menu which seem to be reasonably priced compared to other places I have been recently, I will definitely be revisiting The Hardware Store. their breakfast menu looks awesome and will be heading back soon to try it.
