This is one of those pubs that I have driven past multiple times but I have never stopped by to have a drink, so I decided to change that as soon as possible. When I had arrived in Adelaide one warm December morning, I managed to convince my Day to take the long way home so that we could stop here for a drink. Okay, it is basically what you would expect from your average suburban pub, though it does have a House of Schniztel attached to it(which appears to be a specifically South Australian addition to the ALH chain), meaning that they have a menu with more schnitzel toppings than you could ever try in a lifetime. What I do like about this pub is the beer garden(but then is that not the case with most pubs that have beer gardens), which has quite a nice suburban garden feel to it. Still, it is not necessarily one of those pubs that I would go out of my way to visit.

So! I attempted to come here one Friday night. The place was half full, screaming kids running around. Sat at a table, decided on our meals, went and waited in line. There were 3 girls behind the bar, a man was ordering, he’d paid but continued to stand there and chat to the girls. There was another till one of them could have kept serving the waiting customers on, but they continued to talk for another good 15 minutes until I thought it was a joke and walked out. I left and went down the road to the Seaton and got my cheap but quality meal within 10 minutes of being there. I don’t bother to go else where anymore.

I went here to celebrate my dads 60th birthday, we ordered our food(2 garlic breads, 4 schnitzels and fish) at 7:30pm, we didn’t receive our garlic bread until 8:30 after we asked where it was, it came out cold and very dry. We sat for another 10minutes waiting for our mains and when we complained they told is our food had just been put on! Asked for a refund and left, I will never go back!

Links links. I wanted to like you. But. The décor and the pokies provided your usual suburban pub vibe. I had looked on the website and saw that there was a vegan option the stirfy, which is a little boring but nice to see on the menu of a pub. Now this places CLAIMS to be the home of schnitzels. But does not have a SINGLE vegetarian schnitzel. mega-yawn links. Lots of other places offer eggplant schnitzels, and they are not claiming some grand title. I went to order my vego option and the waitress advised me they were out. I asked about the salad bar, she said I could pay for just the salad bar which sounded great, so I went to check it out. I think the links hotel kind of missed the point of salad. Vegetables. Every single bit of salad was laced with bacon or cream or cheese. Granted there were untarnished singular beetroot. It reminded me of something my grandparents would have served in the nineties, I was looking round for the stuffed olives and the cheese cubes on sticks. So no salad bar for me. I eventually ordered a pasta that the waitress organised with the chef to be sans animal flesh/secretions. The pasta was alright and appreciated the effort of that particular waitress. I also got chips on the side. Everyone at the table had their food and I was waiting on my chips(which on the menu are stated as being served with tomato sauce, woo) they arrive burnt and with sour cream, no tomato sauce. Those burnt chips nearly made me cry. Eating out should not be this hard. I asked the waitress for tomato sauce(very politely I might add, I’m a waitress I get it), she glared at me and returned chucking the tomato sauce on the table! Now Links gets the 2 stars because the other people I was with enjoyed their meals(not the burnt chips mind you, like seriously a potato is worth like 20c, Cook a new batch of chips!) and I got an imperial pint of Carlton Draught for $ 6.50. I think they really need to get in their Delorean and check out the food of the future.

Yay! I’m a fan. The Links Hotel have had an upgrade over the past few years, and it’s looking quite spiffy if I do say so myself. As soon as you walk in you feel comfortable. I love the colour scheme of the reds and the browns, it really works and makes it feel like a pub… but better, if that makes sense. The food is pretty good, especially with a beer on the side. Considering the price you pay you get a huge amount of food. Sadly I couldn’t finish all of my meal. I’m such a girl! I tried so hard, but I couldn’t muster up the courage. It was nice though. I recommend the chicken parmi. If you’re looking for a night out with your mates to watch the latest footy match and enjoy a good meal, then I’d head down to the Links Hotel.
