Abhi’s is my neighborhood go-to for pies and bread. I recently tries their chicken korma pie and love it! They also have yummy pastries with a more natural tinge (think spelt lamingtons) plus bread loaves (I like thr small ones that great for people cooking for 1 – 2!) in whole-grainy flavors or soursough or rosemary olive. Good spot to grab a bit of baked goodness while chilling in South Freo.

Like Ben. H says –the smell of Abhi’s bakery could be bottled and sold. Heavenly.
Although Abhi has Hindi connotations, I have reason to believe this place is run and owned by a Swiss. The cakes and bakes groan wit the same deliciousness as The Pearll of Highgate (
). A colleague bought me one of Abhi’s gluten free orange cakes for my birthday (thanks Yvonne!) It tasted very similar to The Pearl’s version. Moist, slightly dense yet fluffy, perfectly citrus-y, scaled with silvered almonds and of course, yummy!
Next on my hit list — Abhi’s almond croissants. I’m not an almy croizzy buff but my eyes and ears have my tastebuds convinced.

Bakeries are my weakness and so alarm bells were ringing a long way up the street when I saw Abhis’ sign.
A bakery that is designed like a delicatessen for you to sit and enjoy your sweet or savoury delight is something that I miss with all too many chain bakeries set up as a drive through.
The shop has tables and chairs that overlook the windows and their display cabinet was brimming with pastry delights when I arrived. I thought– I don’t need to buy anything, I’ll just have a look so I know for next time.. . however I was defenceless to the smell of freshly cooked bread. I opted for a bread roll– no cream puff éclair story here– It was a restrained but rewarding choice.
This is a bakery with soul.
