I have been coming to the Jam Factory in its different incarnations for many years. It seems, not unlike all of us to have grown and changed over the years, it has followed trends, become unpopular and then regained its strength and vibrancy. It’s main attraction is and always has been the Village Cinema that it houses on either side of the large dome atrium. Many restaurants and shops have come and gone around the cinema but it has always hung on. Now the featured shops are there is a small target, top shop and many small take away restaurants. After all these years I still enjoy coming to the Jam Factory for a cheap bite and a movie!

I hadn’t been to the Jam Factory in years! It is so much nicer then it used to be. The only reason we ever went was for the cinemas but now I’d say it’s a pretty good place to hangout, grab some food and get some new clothes. Obviously still not quite a full shopping centre but it does the trick considering it is right on chapel street.

The Jam Factory has some seriously weird Feng Shui. It has always been quite a strange place in terms of architecture and layout, but now that it is in the midst of(seemingly never ending) renovations, the vibe is even more drab(making it reminiscent of a cultural, if not the actual apocalypse). It seems fitting that the Jam Factory has a T.G.I. Fridays, which, as a restaurant has always had a similarly tragic atmosphere to it. The Pancake Parlour also fit in well until it closed, due, I imagine, to the fact that it was always almost completely empty. In any case, the Village Cinema complex housed within has some of the best cinemas in Melbourne(particularly the plush Europa cinemas), so it’s not all bad.

Will be a better establishment once the renovations are complete, and once this is done: rejoice — there will be a wide variety of different food items to enjoy, and the Jam Factory will be fun once again to visit. Not just to have some Lindt, go to the Groove Train; go to a movie and have a Boost Juice. On the latter, this establishment is home to one of the best Boost Juice outlets for service and well blended smoothies in Melbourne. It is worth it. Love the celebrity like theme, and it is nothing overly special; however it is one of South Yarra’s most prominent landmark. J = joyful A = action M = meaningful F = fun A = activity C = catching on T = thoughtful O = open R = revival Y = yarra vibe

Chapel Street is one of Melbourne’s top shopping and socialising streets, full of cafes and fashion stores. Jam Factory is right there in the thick of it. It has a few big name shops like Borders and Virgin, a few eateries, and a big cinema. The cinema has quite a few screens, so it shows most of the major releases of the moment, and the ‘Europa’ screen shows things that are maybe less mainstream. A part of the Warner group, it’s what you might expect from a chain cinema — but since they have the air con on, it’s worth going to escape the heat alone, particularly if you catch one of their ‘tight arse tuesdays’ cheap nights
