The Pink Piano is a very unique place, after all there are not many places that can claim to be a piano bar with a hot-pink piano. The most exciting thing about this place is the building it is set in– an old building/house of some sort. The place is also very spacious, with separate function rooms, a basement area, the main bar and of course –the room the piano is in. I know a girl who used to work here and the people who helped make the pink piano therefore have a bit of insight behind the establishment of this place. It is pretty simple, the owner bought the place to turn it into a piano bar to fulfill his dream of performing piano to the public. I don’t know about you, but I find that story very compelling. I came here on the opening night which was mainly open to friends and family. I remember finding the experience fun! Watching people gather around the pianist, singing along, whilst on lookers got tipsy of the wine and slowly started dancing. The bar food was very nice but I can not comment on the meals as I did not try any of it. Even though it was not what I usually do when I go out, I left the place really pleased with how the night turned out. I do not know of any other piano bars in Brisbane but what I can say about the Pink Piano is that it is a lot of fun. Even if you do not think piano bars are your kind of thing(neither did I), you may be surprised when you find yourself singing and dancing along.

This place is as camp as a night around Elton’s John’s with a visit from the spirit of Liberace. It’s not cool or remotely hip, but it’s good, old-fashioned fun. It’s in a beautiful, old listed building(built in 1906) which I believe used to be a strip joint, back in the day. It’s like a huge, rambling old house, each room filled with happy drinkers. And yes, you can gather around the Pink Piano in the main room and have a drunken sing along with the evening’s entertainer(there’s a singer there every night). When I was there one Friday night(we’d had a few drinks elsewhere first, and stumbled in here quite merry), we sat and swayed gently, while bellowing loudly and out of tune as the crooner belted out some tunes on the piano. I remember an INXS song, something by U2… and there were various other well-known tunes that my binge-drinking addled brain won’t allow me to remember. If you’re like me when you’re drunk and your inner pop star is gagging to get out, then definitely visit this place for a good vocal workout. You don’t even need to sing into your beer bottle…
