Specialties
A European-inspired neighbourhood tavern specialising in craft beers and with exceptional food, drink, events and hospitality.
History
Established in 2008.
The Local Taphouse opened on the same site as the popular St Kilda Local bar after owner Steve Jeffares had a plan for a specialist craft beer bar inspired by his time living in the USA. Together with new business partner, Guy Greenstone, and a passionate team led by Manager Justin Joiner, The Local Taphouse has become a multi-award winning European-style neighbourhood tavern specialising in craft beer with exceptional food, drink, events and hospitality.

Business Owner
A former filmmaker, Steve Jeffares, opened his first bar — The St Kilda Local — in 2000 after many years living in Europe and the USA. Inspired by his craft beer experiences in Los Angeles, he opened The Local Taphouse speciality beer bar in Melbourne with friend Guy Greenstone in 2008. A year later, The Local Taphouse in Sydney opened and both have won many awards for their beer credentials and hospitality. In 2012, they ran a 3 day craft beer festival, the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS), at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building which has fast become one of the leading beer festivals in Australia.
