I didn’t really come here for the food. It was the only place open that we could sit outside, watch the waves and order a coffee while we waited for our hired paddle boards. Since we had an hour to kill, we ordered a large breakfast and 2 long blacks. They came quickly and as expected since there was nobody here at 10:30AM. Fast forward to 3:00PM, we have returned our paddle boards and we’re feeling hungry. We decided to go back, sit in the sun, watch the waves and do more people watching(that was fun!). All this was good, but the service and the food were now«meh.» It’s not that the waiters and waitresses were not hard working, but there are not enough of them. We ordered 2 fish dishes with ratatouille and the fish was«fishy» so not the best quality, but the sauce hid the fishiness(yes this is a real technique used in kitchens). I had the chicken souvlaki which was huge and the waitress recommended it. I can say it was the best dish there. I know it’s sad that we’re sitting at the beach and the seafood wasn’t great… but that happens. If you have low expectations about the food, then you will be thrilled with the beer, huge quantities of food and great people watching.

I’ve been here a few times for a quick bite or a drink outside. It’s a pretty solid 3 star place — great views onto the beach and ocean, decent seafood and the usual bar. It’s just nothing exceptional — no wow factor in food or service. If your down this way and the other bars are packed, this one is usually a little quieter which is nice. You are also right near the car park which can be handy for keeping an eye on your car. If possible(and it’s a nice day) sit outside on the ocean side. It’s great people watching.

Went to Beachcomber for a quick stop off for a cocktail. We sat outside in the nice outdoor open area. Ordered a espresso martini & a piña colada. These were served in a reasonable time and the piña colada was served in a fresh coconut and was well presented, Espresso martini was also very nicely made. Food looked delicious so will be back again to order some of the menu.

Avoid at all costs. Oysters: not freshly shucked, came out slightly warm. Tried one and stopped due to fear of food poisoning. Came with a side of weird pink sauce, wtf? How can a place on a beach get this part so wrong? Chips: clearly store bought, not hot. Tomato sauce has a weird hot dog taste. Drinks: came out last, ten minutes after the food. A wine and a cider, not sure how it could take that long. Go anywhere else in St Kilda!

The last thing I would have expected to find in such a premium spot of St Kilda is this place. Despite the clean and modern look, the menu is limited, boring and most of all the ingredients look like they just came out of a can of pre cooked food. On the upside, the quantity of food per serve is generous and is fairly kids-friendly. Overall good for a quick stop if you are hungry but otherwise there are plenty of better options around.

A bit overpriced for what is pretty average food for Melbourne, service was fine, but not long after we ate a tiny baby cockroach crawled over the table(we were in a booth), looked at the other seats and could see food residue in the joints of the booth seat backs. Also if kitchen staff share toilets with patrons I want to see them wash their hands like they’re about to head into surgery when they leave a toilet stall.

Would have given zero stars if could have. They are really lucky as they say location location location and in their car it’s about all they have going for them. We ordered drinks — skinny ice coffee without ice cream and acai smoothie whilst waiting for the third to join us. After telling the waiter that we were waiting for a person they seemed to forget about us. The ice coffee of course came with ice cream — twice. The acai smoothie didn’t even after asking several times and being told it was on its way and pointing out that people arriving after us had received their smoothies… After we finally managed to order the food was — average at best. An hour after leaving and one person is currently sick as after chicken slovaki and on way to on duty dr. After almost finishing food and again asking where acai smoothie was we were told oh they don’t do those anymore … Not impressed If you want to eat near the beach get the nastiest takeout you can and go sit down there — you’ll still be ahead.

It worth it for the view. The big breakfast wasn’t the best breakfast ever at all. The hash briwn and the sausage had not a good taste. The«synergie» fruit juice was the best part of the BF. Even the cappuccino hasn’t nothing«special».

When I came here for brunch with my bookclub I wasn’t aware that you were supposed to take photos of you food so that you could plaster it up on the internet, so unfortunately I don’t have any photos of the meal that I had(not that I can actually remember what it was — it was something breakfasty). I’m not too keen on this place though because, well, there are much better places in St Kilda to have a meal, or even a quiet drink. However, it is quite large, though the last time I was here, which was on a summer afternoon, the outdoor areas were packed and the inside was empty. They also have an icecream parlour around the side, which is a little inconvenient because it is not exactly facing the beach. Also, they have waiter service here so there is no going up to the bar to order a beer.

I used to love this place but we went last week bought the seafood platter $ 185 and it was cold. The hot food was cold and horrible. I made a little complain and the rude manager offered me free parking. As if I would go back. Now I know why Republica had no room and beachcomber did. Horrible don’t go there. !!!

Not great service, not great food, but an excellent location. While we were there the fire alarm was going off for about 20 minutes and everyone was just ignoring it… Classy…

Overpriced tourist trap! Great view but food is much better in many surrounding restaurants on Fitzroy and Acland st.

«Trio of dips» tells you everything you need to know about the food on offer here. Suburban schlock — pizza, fish and chips, a burger, various bad salads. In short this place is a disappointing dump, and hideously expensive as well. $ 30 for fish and chips is a ripoff.

They have a nice selection of fresh juices and smoothies. They are $ 8-$ 10 at the restaurant and $ 6-$ 8 at the take away place. I tried the summer kiss(watermelon, pineapple, and mint): really refreshing but you couldn’t taste the mint.

Yes, you pretty much sit right on the beach, but a view of Melbourne’s foremost foreshore is no excuse for what goes on at the Beachcomber. Our waiter approached our table with a main, ambiguously announcing the arrival of «fish». Many of us had ordered dishes matching this ambiguous description, but when pressed for more information, our oracle-like host replied«I don’t know, it could be a King George Whiting … or something». I’d like to add at this point that The Beachcomber is predominately a seafood restaurant. After our waiter’s fishy faux-pas, we were treated to(surprisingly expensive) microwaved mains accompanied by curiously thick, claggy tartare and cold fries. Learn from my mistake people, don’t ever eat here.

Beachcomber has been my first choice for a variety of occasions, christmas dinner and drinks with the girls, lunch date with my man and even a new years eve destination for a huge group of friends and family one year. Beachcomber is one of those traditional beachside restaurants specialising in contemporary Australian cuisine and of course seafood! I would highly recommend their antipasto platter; a selection of grilled vegetables, cold meats, creamy cheeses, marinated olives and artichokes and grissini sticks, great for sharing. I also love the lamb salad and the fisherman’s basket perfect for tucking into on a hot day on the beach in Summer. The staff at Beachcomber are great they will help you organise any sort of function or event, weather it be a casual dinner date or new year extravaganza. Really what better way to bring in the new year than a seat on the beach watching the fireworks enjoying some wine?

Located at the St Kilda Sea Baths, do not be fooled by the great location. This establishment should be avoided at all costs. Why you might ask? You would be better off emotionally and financially to head up to nearby Acland Street once your beach entourage in St Kilda is over. Forget about it and move on. The staff just aren’t welcoming at all. They might be experienced hospitality professionals; it is too hard to tell; or they could be cheap labour; I honestly do not know. It is easy to get the vibe that your mere presence is an interruption and a disturbance in itself. The banana smoothie wasn’t the best, and you end up waiting a heck of a long time for service. If you are in a hurry do not come to this establishment. In fact its beach come go, not beach come in. The waiters are depressed, they probably hate their jobs. Maybe, just maybe if the owner invested in some high class hospitality training for them that things might change for the better in tandem with a more care for the customer attitude. The view is a plus. Slow disgusting customer service and exorbitant prices = not impressed.
