This is the closest drinking establishment to the office. It takes about 45 seconds from door to door so this is where we tend to end up after work when we need a restorative ale or two after a hard week. Us and everyone else around Martin Place. It does get crowded so be prepared for a crush at the bar. The beer selection is ok. The food is ok. The prices are ok. The atmosphere is ok. It’s…ok.

I ordered Chilli & Garlic Prawn Linguine and have to say it was delicious– if you think you may be stuck for time use the«pre-order» service, especially if you are going for a team lunch — service is fine and it does get busy. I will go again(only been in the day not sure what the evening would be like).

Martin Place Bar is perfect for a casual lunch of convenience. Expect lunch times to be packed from the numbers swarming in from the office workplace, and then resoundingly quiet after the lunch time rush. Service is on and off in my experience. One of the female wait staff was obviously having a bad day, she seemed completely disinterested and didn’t serve anyone, while this other man was running around trying his hardest to get to everyone but was still really friendly at the same time. Luck of the draw I guess. It’s generally a decent place to eat in the busy quarter of Martin Place, though I wouldn’t want to be caught here in the after-works drinks rush.

Truth is, I used to come to this bar a lot. Not because its particularly good, but as I used to work in Martin Place and as an ex-corporate banker(ok the ‘ex’ may not be permanent lol) this was the bar you would go to for pub lunches, after work beers, melbourne cup and any other occasion you can think of to have a beer. It was convenient and the food was ok. Not earth shattering, just standard pub fare but in a bar. For the above purposes I would recommend. I have not been here later on in the night as I would have moved on by that stage or on saturdays, so unfortunately I can’t comment on these times. However when I drive pass this place I get the feeling that I wouldn’t want to be there anyway. Let me know if you think otherwise, it would interesting to know what this place is like«after work» :)
