We had dinner here before going to see Spiegelworld’s Absinthe show. It was close to where Dave works and it had vacant seats. The drinks were ok. The food was good. I had a salad with grilled chicken, fried Asian noodles, endame(sp?) beans(green soy beans with their skins still on) that was very tasty. We had stuffed mushroom risotto balls for the entrée and honestly didn’t need them because the mains were so generous(although they were really tasty too). The only real problem was how long our meals took on a Wednesday night when it was half empty. We really cut it fine getting to the show. We did make it but were too rushed to really enjoy the meal. We’ll probably go back but not, I think, if we’re on a tight timeline.

Great group lunch venue for casual work get togethers. Ticks all the boxes — can book large tables, you pay at the counter, food comes quickly and there are daily specials. Stick to pub usuals and steer clear of fhe more exotic numbers. Also provides quite a few screens for sports nuts.

Off to see a show and needed somewhere for a quick dinner and pre-show drink. Quick check on Unilocal and up pops Verandah. Ticks all the boxes — has food, has drinks, has decent reviews. Even better its about 50m from where I sit all day at work. As Pickard said — Make it so. Being a non-peak night, the place was pretty empty but I’m guessing it gets pretty busy Friday nights. The drinks were… ok. A fairly usual selection of craft(ish) beers and a couple of ciders. The food was pretty good. Pub food and not especially creative but good quality and tasty. Certainly very generous. My steak sanger was huge and we really didn’t need the entrée we ordered. Prices were reasonable as well. Given the emptyness of the place, the wait for the food was a ittle longer than expected to the point where we were nervously looking at our watches and wondering whether we would have to jog to make the show or not, but it did all arrive in time(if only just). Not a bad place for an after work drink and bite to eat. Given its closeness to work, I’ll almost certainly be back.

Great place to grab lunch or after work drinks. There have a daily lunch special most days and usually afternoon drink specials. Chicken parm is pretty good! Prices are reasonable and service is good, even when it’s busy.

Service good and the atmosphere is warm… Ordered was the chicken salad — chicken could have used a sauce other than that not bad — a lot of offers during the week(not so much Friday) does offer a happy hour after 5pm

I had come here a few times after work, pretty cool chill pub. I wanted to watch the NBA finals so I rang up Verandah and they said they were playing it. My coworker and I got there a little after 12PM, right in time for the start of the 3rd quarter. Wasn’t too crowded, so we snagged a table with a great view of the TV. There are daily specials and it was Wednesday, so we got the parmigian for $ 10. This was basically the chicken schnitzel which is the special the day before. hmmm Ordered a cider and waited for the food and watched the game. The buzzer went off within minutes and the plate was huge. There was salad, a good amount of chips and a huge heart shaped chicken parmigian with cheese and bacon on top. You can top it off with gravy at the cutlery station. The meat was a bit tough to cut but overall pretty tasty. Was stuffed afterwards. Cheap food, basketball and cider, can’t really go wrong with that combination!

As far as bars that you can eat at go, Verandah isn’t bad. Every weekday there’s a different lunch ‘special’ that is generally in the vicinity of very cheap and tastes fairly accordingly. On a weeknight when your colleagues are looking for a place to drink however, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the place. Good location and a great place to start. That said, Verandah has to go into the category of dirty old men bars because, despite the plethora of suits in here after work, if you time it badly and somehow end up looking for somewhere in the city to have a drink at 3 in the afternoon, I guarantee you’ll get some chubby, sweaty, balding, pink tub of a guy tell you your shoes are great. So, repeat after me: I shall only go to Verandah bar during peak hours. I shall stay with my group of friends. I shall not have high expectations of the food.

The corporate world around Martin Place is actually a small world. Everyone knows everybody and that extends to places to go to for a casual lunch. This is a very common Friday lunch-time haunt for corporates due to the good lunch menu and open bar. The«BBQ menu» is standard pub fare but the quality is actually quite good. My fave orders are the wagyu beef burger, fish & chips or the schnitzel. I’m definitely not a salad girl, but my colleagues claim the chicken salad is quite good if so inclined. Take a seat in the open verandah which is especially nice in summer, and count down the hours to quitting time and the weekend!

If you’re looking for the Verandah Bar and walk straight past it, it’s more than likely you are on Castlereagh Street. There is an entry point through there and up some escalators although if you’re on Elizabeth Street it’s a lot easier to find. There is a sports bar right on the Elizabeth Street entrance although if you walk past that you will come to the main bar area which coincidentally enough has a verandah attached to it. If you make your way to the verandah and grab a seat you overlook Castlereagh Street and quite possibly the point you walked back and forth past in trying to locate this place. It’s a nice bar that is quite big and even though called the Verandah Bar, there is much more to it. If you’re hungry and looking for a swish meal you may even consider the restaurant area. Why not hey? I’m a sucker for oysters, my companion for scallops so that was the entrée out of the way. Mains were also quite pleasant so once you find your way into the Verandah Bar and Restaurant you may not want to leave.
