I was in Newtown with my sweet-toothed friend at such a late hour that our normal bakery had closed so we were forced to eat at Max Brenner. I’m not very into chains but he obviously new this place and directed us to share the babka. I took my half with a flat white and was pretty happy. The babka tasted like any over the counter pastry at a Starbucks or something but it came with a little pot of melted milk chocolate that made it a bit more pleasant. I think the price point really saves Max because it wasn’t too expensive. I’m not saying I’ll willingly return, but I’m glad there is some where on the block I can share a cake with my friend at any hour.

Smaller than the usual ones in the city, this one is right in the heart of Newtown, perfect for an after lunch/dinner visit. The service is friendly and efficient so there’s no complaints there. I had ordered a flat white($ 3.90) however the coffee was a bit weak and there was way too much milk. The desserts were ok but the chocolate cake sponge didn’t taste really fresh which was a real bummer. I haven’t tried the chocolate here but the presentation looked good! It’s quite pricey so not a place I would frequently visit — I would honestly go to the one in Central where it’s bigger with more room and hopefully their food is of a better quality.

Max Brenner became a bit of a post dinner tradition for the bestie and I during winter. We’d always consider going somewhere else but we’d always end up back here. Inside is warm, dark and moody. It looks pretty inviting but it’s always really busy and they really cram you in there. Good luck if you get a table AND get elbow room with it. And you’re generally lined up for quite some time to order as well. But then you’re chocolate comes out and for the most part these troubles don’t really matter that much any more. «1 chocolate lick with strawberries, please!». That was the staple order. Just straight up a little pot of delicious melted chocolate with fresh strawberries to dip into it… Ughhhhhh sorry I had to pause a moment to wipe the drool off my face. Occasionally we’d order a chocolate lick with a scoop of ice cream too. Also, the hot chocolate with tiny waffle balls in it. Yep. Do that. MB’s is definitely good for a naughty little nightcap on a chilly evening but just be prepared to batlle others for some territory.

I had very bad experience with them on ANZAC day! I went there with my friend and we ordered for hot chocolate at 1:36pm but order came around 2:05pm while it was really disappointing to see hot chocolate was cold!!! It wasn’t worth of waiting long there they wasted our time and provided very low quality service!

For all things chocolately it was awesome. The service wasn’t what I’d call awesome though. End of the day however the food made up for it.

A lazy Sunday afternoon, we had a craving for something sweet so we decided to pop down to the local Max Brenner in Newtown. Was my first time to a Max Brenner and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the chocolate was! We ordered a chocolate crunch pizza, which was covered in a nice thick layer of melted chocolate and topped with crunchy corn flakes, pecans, white chocolate & marsh mellows. The menu selection isn’t massive, but I guess it’s quality that counts, and the chocolate is awesome, can’t wait till my next visit! The place was quite busy But the service was friendly and we didn’t have to wait long for a table to free up.

You should read my review of Max Brenner in New York City — amazing. The Mexican Hot Chocolate here was sub par for any hot chocolate, anywhere. Vague taste of cinnamon, wholly watered down, no spice whatsoever. My friend had some type of cakey thing and a different hot chocolate, neither of which were at all remarkable, just«passable».

I was at Max Brenners in Manly. Delicious! And such a variety of hot chocolate and deserts. I was surprised by the service: first they brought the wrong hot chocolate… so they gave us the wrong one for free AND a little«apologize-waffle» with chocolate sauce AND the ordered hot chocolate. We were so full afterwards, but it was worse it:-)

OKAY, normally I’d say I LOVE chocolate. And I’ve been to Max Brenner in Manley, liked it … to MB in Paddington, they mixed up my chocolates(got the standard instead of the Italian hot chocolate). ANDTHEN, we got a REALLY bad coffee, CRAP service and only an average hot choccie at the store in NEWTOWN. First of all, we had to wait for ages(two sets of people that came after us received their orders before us), then the staff forgot the spoons and forgot them again. Then they forgot napkins and then my choc was too hot, too sugary and certainly not chocolaty enough but what’s worst: the ristretto(short espresso) could have rivalled a McDonald’s coffee and probably won hand’s down: YUCK. All in all, MB’s rating has slipped in my books over the years/visits and now, only 1 star remains, I’m afraid … Sometimes customer service is more important than the product but if both fails, you’ve certainly lost a customer… anybody interested in my remaining bonus card: p
