I have been here several times as my mum-in-law just loves this place but, to be honest, I just think it is OK. There is nothing wrong with it — I guess I just find it a little boring and predictable. Food has always been good and service prompt. We always get a large selection of dishes and they have always been the same — good but not outstanding. If you are looking for a tried and tested place for Japenese then this would be a good place to come — just do not expect your socks to be blown off.

This is a simple truly Japanese experience. Great fresh food, good portion sizes and fabulous value for money. Love the lunch Bento boxes for $ 12.50. Lovely miss soup and delightful green tea. Staff are friendly and efficient. Just a perfect local Japanese location

Really Meh. Not worth the hype. Staples like the karaage were dripping oil, nothing was remarkable about the deep fried salmon or the amazingly marked up sashimi. We ventured here on a Unilocal recommendation so it’s only fair we update the listings. 2 people almost $ 100 spent should enjoy some aspect of it but all our visit did was ensure we won’t bother checking out the west end location.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit here for Unilocal’s Breakfast Club! I’m a firm believer that sushi is not a breakfast food, but I surprised myself by happily inhaling a Bento Box of delicious Japanese delights for Sunday brunch with fellow Unilocalers. One thing I’d change was ordering the Macha Green Tea latte — it looked disgusting but actually didn’t taste awful. I’d probably stick with ordering a coffee or a non-latte green tea next time. Everything here was fresh and delicious and I’d love to come back soon, perhaps for lunch.

I’ve long been a fan of sushi for breakfast. I won’t hear ill of it. And while not sushi, the Japanese breakfast from Mizu in Teneriffe has been on my Brisbane breakfast list for long enough to make Sunday’s breakfast at this oft forgotten Japanese restaurant well worth the wait. Being in a large group we were able to easily sample a little of everything — bento boxes, okonomiyaki, omelette and the dish we all wish we got — Loco Moco(grilled beef mince pattie, fried egg and green salad on a bowl of steamed rice, topped with sesame sukiyaki gravy sauce). My long black was nothing by comparison to the green macha latte which looked like and had the texture of Mylanta but actually tasted quite good. Mizu only offer breakfast on weekends and it is definitely worth the venture away from the usual café breakfast.

I can’t fault this place. We go back continually. It’s so fresh, tasty and we just can’t stop ordering, we love it. Lunch or dinner — it’s brilliant!

Having lived in Japan for a couple of years, it’s such a delight to find an authentic Japanese restaurant right here in my home town of Brisbane. I took my friend there to celebrate her birthday(she lived in Japan too) and we had delicious starters of edamame and agedashi tofu, followed by huge, yummy bento boxes with karaage chicken and hamburger steak. The Japanese wait staff and chef are knowledgeable and you can’t fault the service or the reasonable price. I’ll be sure to be back next time I’m home for a little slice of Kanagawa-Ken on the Brisbane river!

Mizu(‘water’) is definitely my favourite Japanese restaurant in Brisbane for its price. A close contender to Sono for quality, although given Mizu’s more casual feel I wouldn’t put too much stock in comparisons. Sono is five-star food in an upmarket restaurant setting, while Mizu is five-star food in a humble café setting. Combining a very casual and comfortable environment, personable service and the freshest produce, Mizu is a great place to have a celebration with friends, a casual catch up or a relaxed dinner date that will impress your beau. One of my definite favourite dishes is the ‘Buri Shioyaki’ — the salt-grilled king fish. The simple method of cooking lets the impeccably fresh fish be the star of the show. I’ve had it a number of times and it’s consistently amazing. They also do daily blackboard specials which keep things interesting. Another cool feature is that each meal comes out served in a unique Japanese ceramic dish which accentuates the natural beauty of the food’s presentation. The have a good range of shoju(Japanese alcohol) and occasionally host sake tasting. They also run cooking classes, which you can check out in the events section of their website.
