Marble Slab Creamery opened this first location in Australia on December 7, 2011. The franchise system has been in existence since 1984, founded in the United States. MSC Australia plans to develop over 30 locations in Australia.

It has moved into the site formerly housing Cold Rock at Garden City… it has got that familiar marble slab… mall rats are lounging around twitching their noses and watching the ice-​cream with beady eyes. Yet it’s not Cold Rock. It’s not even some cheap owner refusing to pay the franchising fee on a Cold Rock shop. Marble Slab Creamery is an international chain and Garden City is its first Brisbane-​based franchise.
I know gelati is kicking ice-cream’s butt at the moment in the popularity arena but perhaps that’s why I’ve made a return to it. I’ve always supported the underdog even if it means an extra couple of kilos to my thighs.
Despite being a completely different franchise, the concept is basically the same as Cold Rock. Pick a flavour of ice-​cream and some mix-​ins. Watch the puny shop assistant struggle to get a decent sized scoop and then mix everything up on a cold marble slab. Pay for ice-​cream. Run far away from the mall rats and enjoy ice-​cream in peace.
It’s impossible to recommend a flavour as there are a million combinations to be had. The other night, I had the Caramel peanut butter crisp — sweet cream ice cream with crushed butter finger, chocolate chips and caramel. D’lish! Marble Slab Ice Creamery definitely has better quality ice-​cream than Cold Rock.
If you want something a little different there’s always the ice-​cream pizza. Personally I’m not game but I’d love to hear all about it if any fellow Unilocalers are.
