This place is cool. We really enjoyed our time here. Interestingly there is no alcohol here, which gives this place a really friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. It is not overly cheap, as they charge by the hour — not by the game. But overly it was an awesome place to be.

Up a series of rickety wooden stairs hides this wonderfully homey snooker hall. With the kind of comfy couches you’d find at grandmas, jazz piping from somewhere in the rafters and all the lollies youthful nostalgia could desire(sherbet bombs, toffee apples, fizzers, redskins, pythons etc), well maintained tables and membership that entitles you to learn the secret Red Triangle handshake, this sneaky hidden spot is the perfect place to while away spare hours either playing pool or the giant chess set — complete with candle mood lighting in the eve! For those who don’t partake in the game of felt and tip, they make a killer array of milkshakes(Snickers, Twix, HOT jam doughnut, Fererro Rocher), tasty toasties and coffee table books of both far-off places and hipster trends! An awesome way to spend a few hours alone, or to bring a bundle of friends for an over-consumption of delicious milkshake dairy, and a lovely home-away-from-home in the hustle-bustle of the city! Happy hour on tables before 6pm(half price) and 10% off your overall final bill if you check in on facebook.

This place looks like it was built, furnished, and decorated in the 1950s and not changed a bit since. You could honestly skip the pool playing and just relax with friends around some chairs. And the milkshakes are amazing.

Thought I would share a little happiness this grey Monday morning with a place we stumbled upon at the weekend: Red Triangle Snooker Room, just off Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. Climb several flights of wooden stairs in what looks like an abandonedapartment block(apart from the yoga place on the first floor) to this attic pool, snooker and billiards emporium. It’s a bit faded, fusty and dusty, but that’s all part of the charm. Vintage cinema chairs, old-school trophies and a seating area that looks like your gran’s front room — this place revels in retro without even trying. Anyway, games aside(there is also a selection of board games and even a copy of the Guinness Book of Records for those who prefer armchair-based trivial pursuits) head here for deluxe milkshakes made with chocolate bars, milk, ice cream and lashings of chocolate sauce. Twix, Bounty, Snickers, Toblerone … you name it, these guys blend it. Served in a tall glass with a wafer they are utterly yummy and indulgent, plus the schlep up to this place kind of counters the calories. A bit. They also serve up a mean toastie — comfort food at its best.

Where have all the pool tables gone? With so many pubs around Fitzroy and Collingwood ousting their tables to make more dining space, Red Triangle is a saviour when all you need is a couple of games of stick and ball. Hidden away between Brunswick St and Smith St(the sign is really faded so you have to be on the lookout), this upstairs pool palace charges by the hour, has multiple table sizes available and has a snack bar. It is unlicensed, so there’s no beer with your game, but the litter of pool geeks inside keeps you focussed. This is serious billiards/snooker(or in our case Kelly’s) business. It’s also half price on weekdays before 6pm.
